The annual ‘Trick or Treat Trot’ 5K race to benefit the Newburyport High School Class of 2010 will be held on Sunday, October 26th at 12:00 pm (noon). The race starts at the high school.

You can pre-register for the race for $15. If you register on the day of the race, the fee is $20. Registration on the day of the race starts at 10:30.

5K Run and Walk, 12 noon)
Where: Perley School, Georgetown, MA
Cost: $15 before Oct. 1 ($20 after)

The 2nd Annual Mike Donohoe Memorial 5K Run/Walk for Melanoma will be held Sunday, October 19 at the Perley School in Georgetown. The event raises money to benefit the Melanoma Foundation New England and the Michael J. Donohoe Scholarship Fund.

Parking for the race is available at Georgetown Middle/High School, located on 11 Winter Street.

The 3rd River Rivals Summer Track Grand Prix Series, sponsored by the Winner’s Circle Running Club and Yankee Runner, will include a meet at Newburyport on Tuesday, August 12.

Events start at 5:45 p.m.

The cost is $5 per night.

Ipswich YMCA Annual Triathlon, Friday August 22nd

When: Friday, August 22
Where: Crane Beach and Argilla Road, Ipswich

The annual Ipswich YMCA triathlon is scheduled for Friday, August 22. 

The triathlon , which is limited to 200 participants, has three events: a one-half mile swim, a 2.5 mile beach and trails run, and a nine mile bicycle race to the finish line.

The triathlon kicks off at 5:45 p.m with the one-half mile swim at Crane Beach. The ocean will be at mid-tide when the swim portion of the triathlon begins. Crane Beach lifeguards will oversee the swim.

After completing the swim, the triathlete will take off on foot for a 2.5-mile run on the beach and trails of Crane Beach to the Ipswich parking lot at the beach. At the parking lot, the participants will get on their bicycles for the race to the finish line on Argilla Road, nine miles away.

Summer cross country races will run on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. until August14 at Maudslay State Park on the Travis Landreth Cross Country Course.

There are two races each night - one 1.5-mile race and another 3.0-mile race.

The cost is free with donations accepted.

Essex County Greenbelt “Run for the Trails!” race (5K or 10K), Saturday, July 19th

Where: Pingree Reservation at the Pingree School, Hamilton, MA
Cost: $20 per runner

The first Essex County Greenbelt “Run for the Trails!” race (5K OR 10K) will occur on Saturday, July 19, 9 a.m., at Pingree Reservation in Hamilton. There is a 9:00 a.m. start.

The course begins in a field at the Pingree School, and immediately enters the forest. The entire course will be run along the trails that wind through the Pingree Reservation.

The trails are both single and double track. Footing is relatively even, but there are a few tricky spots. The course is rolling, with a handful of short uphill and downhill sections. The 5k runners will run one loop, and the 10k runners two loops.

The course will be marked with flags, and volunteers will stand at

locations where runners might be confused. There will be one water station set up at the start/finish area (which will be at 3.1 miles for the 10k runners).

The cost to participate in the race is $20 per runner. Proceeds from the event will benefit Essex County Greenbelt.

The Art, Psychology, and Joy of Running, Tuesday, July 22nd

Join a panel of running experts for a free seminar on the science, art, psychology, and joy of running on Tuesday, July 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Fitness Factory in Newburyport.  The seminar is for runners of all ages and abilities.

The panel will include Saucony’s Todd Swenson, Gordon College coach Jack Molvar, Elite Lynx coach Mick Grant, Triton track star Keely Maguire, local legend Buddy Bostick, physical therapist John Wile, and dietetics and nutrition major Allison Herrick.

30th Annual Salisbury Beach Race, Saturday August 16th

When: Saturday, August 16th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Salisbury Beach

At 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, the Salisbury Beach lifeguards will host the 30th Annual
Salisbury Beach Race. There is a Kid’s Fun Run and a five-mile race.

The registration fee for the Kids’ Fun Run is $1. The fee for the five-mile race is $12 if runners register by Aug. 1. After Aug. 1, the registration fee is $15.

Proceeds from the event will support a drowning prevention program for local children.
