Rowley’s 10th annual “Some Like it Hot!” Chili Cookoff will be held Saturday, November 5th from 5:30 to 8:p0 p.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Hall, Main Street (Route 1A), Rowley.

Chili lovers can look forward to sampling 20 or so versions of this tasty delight judged by 5 local celebrities. Admission includes cornbread, veggies, hot dogs, dessert and the featured item; varied chili recipes including red, green, meat and vegetarian options.

Ipswich Ale, Stone Cat Ale, and Mercury soda will be available for purchase from our co-sponsor Mercury Brewing Company. A variety of red and white wines may also be purchased from our co-sponsor, Rowley Liquors.

Enjoy entertainment by The Three Amigos Trio, craft activities for the kids, raffles and door prizes. Co-sponsor The First National Bank of Ipswich is helping the cook-off “go green” by providing biodegradable paper goods for the event!

The Amesbury Sports Park will be hosting the 5th Annual Brew Feston Saturday, September 24, from 12:00 to 8:30 pm. at its facility at 12 South Hunt Road in Amesbury MA.

The Brew Fest, sponsored by Dos Equis, will feature a plethora of microbrews, barbecue, OGO (Outdoor Gravity Orb) and summer tubing rides and music by 6 live bands on an outdoor stage.

The Park’s Brew Fest attracted nearly 2,200 people last year, and they are expecting north of 4,500 people to attend the all day event this year.

The Amesbury Sports Park has partnered with Merrimack Valley Distributors who will be showcasing their entire portfolio of microbrews including:

• Ithaca Cascazilla
• New Castle Werewolf
• Wolavers Pumpkin.

Many of the distributor’s brewers are attending the event and will be available to discuss the history, brewing processes, and subtle nuances of their favorite brews.

While the focus of the Brew Fest is on craft brews, there will be a handful of more mainstream beers like Coors Light for the slightly less adventurous.

Music

Local favorites and headlining band, The Brew, will be celebrating the release of their latest CD at the Brew Fest.

Other bands performing include: Michael Bernier & The Uprising, Nerve 8, The Romano Project, Sunchunck and more.

OGO Rides & Summer Tubing

In addition to the beer, BBQ and bands, the Brew Fest will feature OGO rides and summer tubing. The OGO (Outdoor Gravity Orb) is an 11 foot inflatable transparent sphere with another inflated sphere suspended inside it. Riders enter the orb and strap themselves into a harness, or enter the H2OGO with up to 3 people and 5 gallons of water and are pushed over the edge of an 800 foot grassy slope.

Tickets: Tickets for admission are just $11 and are available in advance online at the Amesbury Sports Park website or at the door on the day of the event.

Once inside the gate, guests may purchase ten 3-oz. samples for $10. Full pints will be available at the draft truck.

You are invited to visit eleven of Newburyport’s most fabulous kitchens. These kitchens were chosen based on originality, design, and functionality. This year’s tour has an incredible line up. It will feature eleven uniquely different homes, including a beach house, many restored antiques, new construction, and a converted church.

Although kitchens are the focus of the tour, tour attendees can also enjoy a peek into other first floor living spaces.

Another great event for clam chowder lovers on the North Shore!

The Essex Division of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commercewill sponsor the 28th annual Essex ClamFest from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Memorial Park in Essex on Saturday, October 23rd.

The highlight of the day is the Clam Chowder Tasting contest, a competition that pits area restaurants against one another to determine who serves the best chowder on Cape Ann.

Several local restaurants will be serving up their favorite chowder recipes starting at 12:00 noon and ending at 2:00 p.m.

The chowder will be judged by Legal Seafoods President & CEO Roger Berkowitz, Senator Bruce Tarr, Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante, Essex Town Selectman Jeff Jones, Chamber President Kathy Low, Amy Harnois of TD Bank and local personality Ed Collard. The public will also have the opportunity to sample and vote on their favorite chowder.

In addition to the Chowder competition, the ClamFest will include the following activities and entertainment:

• An arts and crafts area
• Entertainment throughout the afternoon
• The Lions Club food pavilion
•  An Ipswich Ale station
• Organization, church, and non-profit information and display tables
• A number of rides and games for the children
• A health fair
• A free flu shot clinic from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
• A raffle for a catered clambake by Woodman’s to benefit the Essex Elementary School.

The crafts area and the rides will be open to the public starting at 11:00 a.m.

From Ipswich. Take Route 133 east into Essex. At the Village Restaurant, turn right onto Martin Street (Rt. 22). The Clamfest takes place in Memorial Park, behind the Essex Firehouse.

Hampton Garden Club Cooking Demonstration

The Hampton Garden Club will host chef/instructor Liz Barbour for an interactive cooking demonstration, “Cooking and Gardening with Herbs,” on Wednesday, October 13th at 7:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church.

On Saturday, September 25th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. crowds will once again gather at the historic Riverwalk in Ipswich for the 2010 Ipswich Lions Chowderfest.

If you’re like us here at GreaterNewburyportToday.com, and you’re always looking forward to regional food, wine, and beer & ale tastings, make sure that you add the annual Ipswich Chowderfest to your calendar for Saturday, September 25th! We’ll be there to sample some of the best local chowders made with local Ipswich and Essex shellfish!

Folks on the North Shore and beyond will flock to Ipswich for its famous fried clams, seafood and of course delectable clam chowder. What better way to round out the season than with an opportunity to, not only sample some of the best chowder around, but also become judge for a day?

Those attending pay a small fee to taste chowders from local restaurants and then vote for their favorites. About a dozen local restaurants serve up their best chowder to hundreds of hungry participants at an event that has become a North Shore tradition.

The Lions are looking for restaurants to bring their best chowda’ to vie for the coveted Peoples’ Choice and Judges’ Choice Awards. This is an opportunity to put your restaurant on the map. Once again, there will also be raffles and businesses and individuals are needed to donate certificates and items to be included.

Sponsored by the Ipswich Lions Club, all proceeds are donated to local charities such as high school scholarships, programs for seniors, Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Foundation, and eyeglass recycling.

Thanks to EBSCO Publishing their parking lot has proven to be a great place to hang out on a fall day, listen to music and meet up with friends. Local groups supplement the chowder samplings with music, beverages, face painting, and other fun activities making for a festive atmosphere that draws crowds of all ages.
