Introduction to Tracking Mammals, Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, Topsfield, Saturday, December 10th

Before the domestication of animals, people had to hunt wild animals for food and fur. The skill of tracking animals effectively once ensured our survival, but now it is a lost art.

Today, all of the items we need to survive are only a few miles away. Join Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary Naturalist Scott Santino, a tracking enthusiast, to learn the basics of tracking our local mammals. We’ll talk about the life histories of mammals native to Massachusetts including rodents, carnivores, hoofed animals, and lagomorphs.

Following the indoor introduction, we’ll hike the sanctuary to search for tracks, chews, and scat.

Tracking is a fun and exciting skill that will make your winter walks more enjoyable.

Audience: Adult.

Instructions: Meets in the Nature Center. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear.

You are welcome to join the Wednesday morning hikes that are sponsored by the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee.

An informal group meets at the Town Landing on East Street, Ipswich at 9:30 am on each Wednesday from mid September to mid June. All are welcome.

The morning hikes explore the woods and trails in and about Ipswich. There are eleven miles of marked trails in Ipswich, Massachusetts, including a portion of the Bay Circuit Trail. These trails are maintained by members of the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee (IBCTC) with other volunteers, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and other organizations in Ipswich.

Hatha Yoga at the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary

Start your week by nourishing your body with Hatha yoga. Join certified yoga instructor Maura Mastrogiovanni for an intermediate yoga class for adults. Maura is a skilled, dedicated teacher who helps each individual evolve in her/his practice.

This stimulating class is for those who are beyond the beginner level. Come join us as we move and breathe.

Fee: Fee per class is $10. Classes meet on Monday mornings from 8:15-9:30 am.
