Lowell’s Boat Shop, the oldest continuously working boat shop in America, invites you to their Holiday Open House on Saturday and Sunday, December 3rd and 4th.

The Tradition Continues! The 2011 Holiday Open House is upon us again. This year, we are pleased to be hosting a wooden boat raffle. This is your chance to win and own a beautiful wooden skiff, handmade at Lowell’s Boat Shop. 

Don’t forget to bring your family and friends and get your shopping done early and with our distinctive handmade gifts. There is something for everyone. See you there

The shop will be festively decorated for the holidays and you’ll have the chance to explore the shop and purchase a wide range of unique holiday gifts. The Holiday Open House will feature:

• Art Exhibit & Sale
• Unique Handcrafted Gifts
• Christmas Wreaths & Ornaments
• Victuals – PJ’s Famous Fish Chowder!!!
• and a visit by Santa

Lowell’s Boat Shop, built in 1793 by Simeon Lowell, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, is considered to be the birthplace of the legendary New England fishing dory, originated by Simeon Lowell.

 Enjoy the annual Whittier Home Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 12th from 2 to 4 p.m.

Throughout the holiday season, the Whittier Home, Amesbury, is filled with the sights and sounds of Christmas past and present.

Lights are sparkling, traditional wreaths and garlands are draped over everything that will stand still and carols are ringing through the air – it must be time for the holidays!

Stop by the Whittier Home on Sunday, December 12th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and enjoy the annual Community Open House and celebration of historic poet, John Greenleaf Whittier. Sue Curry and the Garden Committee will be decorating the home in true Victorian fashion, the cut-glass period punchbowl will be the centerpiece, and the table will be laden with a selection of sweets, nuts, seasonal fruits and candies.

Dawn Bennett will lead mini tours of the home, Hope Cole and her committee will host the event, and the Gift Shop will be open for holiday purchases. This is a complimentary event for townspeople.

 Thank you for your continued support of the Whittier Home Museum. Each year brings in more visitors than ever before, thanks to our designation as “1000 Great Places To Visit in MA,” by the State office of Tourism.

The Holy Family Parish, Amesbury will hold their Annual Holiday Fair Saturday November 6th in the Parish Hall at 11 Sparhawk Street in downtown Amesbury from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Come visit the birthplace of the legendary fishing Dory, Lowell’s Boat Shop, in Amesbury, MA and the oldest continuously working boat shop in America.

Founded by Simeon Lowell in 1793, the boat shop designed and produced some of the finest small fishing vessels used by American mariners. The shop is a “working museum” where visitors can see boats under construction.

Lowell’s Boat Shop is open for tours this weekend as part of TRAILS & SAILS 2010. Coordinated by the Essex National Heritage Commision, Trails & Sails raises regional awareness of Essex County’s resources, encourages visitation, and fosters stewardship and preservation of its heritage sites. It’s a great way to explore the many cultural, historic, and natural sites of Essex County during two weekends of FREE events featuring a variety of walks, guided hikes, sails, historical tours, and adventures

 John Greenleaf Whittier Home Tour

From 1836 until his death in 1892, John Greenleaf Whittier lived and wrote most of his poetry and prose in his Amesbury, MA home.

While it serves as a National Historic Landmark and tribute to the Quaker poet, it also plays an important role in the region’s contemporary literary scene, attracting writers from Greater Boston and beyond.

You can tour the John Greenleaf Whittier home on Saturday, July 3rd from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm as part of the ongoing Amesbury Days 2010 celebration.

Kid’s Evening In The Millyard

Marcus Gale brings music and a menagerie of puppets with him when he performs in the Millyard June 30th. This is a fun-filled evening for children and the young at heart.

This kids evening will feature a variety of activities and entertainment, including the following:

• Teddy Bear Check-up(sponsored by Anna Jaques Hospital) – Encourage your children to bring their favorite stuffed toy to the play hospital, and have the nurses explain what happens during a check-up.

Evey’s Late Night Dinnerwill be performing in concert at the Millyard Amphitheatre in downtown Amesbury on Monday evening, June 28th.

The two hour performance starts at 7:00 pm and is one of  the Amesbury Days 2010 featured events. This year’s celebration of Amesbury Days runs from June 23rd to July 4th.

The Boston band Evey’s Late Night Dinner mixes crafty storytelling with intricate arrangements presented with passion and energy. The sound is best described as an enthralling mix of Indie college rock and American with a dash of root. Performances are tight, tuneful, energetic and with laced with a bit of banter.

The band has defined their music as layers of acoustic and electric guitar work with synthesized melodies that are overlapped by homemade instruments. Band members include:  Mike Fitzgerald, Paul MacEachern, Derek Mattuchio, Daniel Muise, and Robert Sansom
