Newburyport residents Bonnie Perkins and her year 15 year old son, Nick are riding a special ride along with Bonnie’s Uncle Jol to beat cancer.

Two Day Journey: It is a two day journey of 180 miles starting in western MA and ending on the very tip of Cape Cod.  Bonnie’s Uncle Jol had promised Nick that when he turned 15 they would all partake in this ride as a special adventure to help beat cancer.

The three of them are riding in honor & memory of their family and friends, and are proud to be supporters of the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. Last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s tireless commitment to finding a cure.

Here is our update on where we are and some of the events we are organizing to help raise the money before our big 180 mile Cancer Ride.

New Event! A PMC Yankee Homecoming Week Raffle! Buy Raffle Tickets for a Cause!. We have Great Prizes. If you make a check or cash donation, we submit raffle tickets into the pot under your name. Cost per ticket $5 or 5 tickets for $20! The raffle will be held Saturday, July 31st by Kendall Buhl, WBZ-AM Radio Broadcaster& owner of Tokyo Joes Karat.

• Bike Repairs for a Cause: Nick has been busy repairing & doing tune ups bikes for friends and neighbors. Let us know if you have a bike you need tuned up and we will personally pick up your bike for the repairs

• CPR classes for a Cause: This summer Bonnie  has donated all her CPR class profits for their ride. Let herknow if you would like her to arrange a CPR workshop for your book club, mother’s club, group of friends or family. Training is 2 hours and costs $49. Learn how to save a life!
• Get Your Car Washed! In two weeks they will be having a PMC car wash at their house. Come get your car soaped up and cleaned for a cause!

10th Annual Newburyport Kitchen Tour

The Annual Newburyport Kitchen Tour has become a featured event in the summer in Newburyport. Proceeds from this year’s the 10th Annual Kitchen Tour benefit the Newburyport Elementary PTO.

This is a fun event, and a fabulous way to learn about the local builders, designers, architects, cabinet makers and view some of the finest kitchens in Newburyport.

All of the proceeds benefit the ever challenged school budget for grades Pre-K through Grade 5.

The Amesbury Days Fireworks Fundraiser Committee is holding a fundraiser at the Flatbread Company, Amesbury on Tuesday, June 8th from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m.

The Annual Ipswich Rotary 5K Race and Walk is being held at Appleton Farms, Ipswich on Saturday, June 26th. The event is being coordinated by the Ipswich chapter of Rotary International.

The race is being held to support the local and international charitable endeavors of Ipswich Rotary. Programs include the Ipswich Rotary Scholarship Fund, the Lend-A-Hand Seniors Program (available through the Ipswich Council on Aging), PolioPlus and RotoPlast.

The Annual Ipswich Rotary 5K Race features the following race & walk events:

• 3.5K Walk – starts at 9:00 am
• 5K Run – starts at 10:00 am
• 1 Mile Kids Fun Run – starts at 10:45 am
• Award Ceremony at 11:30 am

Please arrive early enough before the posted race time so that you can park your cars, grab a drink, warm up for your event and enjoy the festive family fun area that will be open until 1:00 pm.

Be sure to bring friends, family and kids. It is suggested that you arrive approximately 60 minutes beforehand for your event.

DINNER WITH A FIREMAN – Help Support The Byfield Fire Department

The Byfield Fire Department will be holding their annual chicken barbecue on Saturday, June 12th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on the fire department’s front lawn.

Come on down and enjoy slow roasted barbecue chicken, cole slaw, potato salad, home made brown beans, rolls, cold drinks and dessert!

Meals can also be prepared for takeout/to go.

Musical entertainment will be provided by a folk band.

2nd Annual Make Way For Molly Pan Mass Challenge Fundraiser

If you want to enjoy a fun night of dancing, food, entertainment, a silent auction and raffles, and also help raise money in the fight against cancer at the same time, plan on attending the Second Annual Make Way For Molly PMC Fundraiserat the Elks Lodge, Newburyport on Friday evening, June 4th.

Fundraiser for Molly Callahan

The event is being hosted by the Barlow family of Newburyport and many of their friends to help raise money to support the fight to eradicate cancer.

The goal of the fundraiser is to raise money for children and adults fighting cancer, to celebrate those who have conquered the disease and honor the memory of those who have not.

The Barlow’s niece, Molly, was diagnosed when she was 10 years old with leukemia. She is now 14, a freshman at Pingree, and is in remission due to the outstanding care and treatment she received at Children’s Hospital and the Jimmy Fund Clinic.

This will be the fourth year the “Make Way for Molly” team will be riding to raise money for cancer research in the hopes of wiping out this horrible disease that has unfortunately touched so many lives, young and old.

Last year because of your kindness and support, the Make Way For Molly Fundraiser generated over $11,000 and exceeded every expectation we had. Words cannot fully convey how thankful and touched we are.

Mike and Sam once again have committed to raising at least $7200.00 together. We hope you will be able to join us in a night of fun and celebration.

As Sam says, “riding 84 miles is nothing compared to what Molly has had to go through”.

The 32nd Annual Salisbury 5-Mile Beach Lifeguard Race will be held earlier this year to coincide with the Salisbury Beach Sand & Sea Festival.

This year the race will be on Saturday, June 26th 2010. The event will start promptly at 6:00pm from Salisbury Beach Center – in front of the SurfSide5 restaurant.

The race is open to anyone, and you are encouraged to pre-register!

The 3/4-mile Children’s Fun Run will kick off from the SurfSide5 at approximately 5:45 pm.

Registration for both events will begin at 5pm at the Information Kiosk in Salisbury Center. The registration fee is $15.00 and includes a T-Shirt.

Proceeds frm the race benefit local charity as well as equipment and training for the Salisbury Beach Lifeguards.

Parking:

Parking will be available at the town municipal lot and at the State Reservation. There will be a shuttle running from the reservation parking lots to the center. In addition, metered parking is available along the streets in the center.
