Dinner with the Authors at the 5th Annual Newburyport Literary Festival 2010

A great way to start off the Fifth Annual Newburyport Literary Festival is to attend the Dinner With The Authors on Friday April 23 at 7:30 pm at Nicholson Hall, Newburyport. You can ,ix and mingle with your favorite festival authors!

The festival starts on Friday, April 23rd at the Firehouse Centre for the Arts. The ceremony is followed by our Dinner with the Authors at Nicholson Hall.

Cost: $50 per person

Saturday continues the celebration with a full day of activities from Coffee with the Poets to the closing ceremony. This festival promises to have something for every reader.

Central Congregational Church, UCC, Newburyport is hosting “The Renaissance Concert” with Primal Polyphony and guitarist, George Little on Sunday March 7th at 4:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the church.

The concert will feature works by John Dowland, William Byrd, Luys Milan, and Alonso Mudurra. “We are glad to offer this concert to the community in celebration of our rich musical heritage,” said the Reverend Christopher Ney, pastor of Central Congregational Church.

Newburyport will once again be welcoming local and national authors and readers alike to celebrate Literature, Readers and Writers at the Fifth Annual Newburyport Literary Festival (NLF), organized by the Newburyport Literary Association, on April 23rd and 24th, 2010 in downtown Newburyport.

Located in Newburyport, Massachusetts, with its rich literary heritage, the NewburyportLiterary Festival is a unique opportunity for local and nearby community members to meet with and to hear from well-known authors from every genre in a picturesque setting.

The NLF in 2010 features more than 40 writers of distinguished fiction and non-fiction – including short story writers, children’s authors, biographers, nature writers, critics, screenwriters, poets, novelists, and journalists – who will read and discuss their work in venues throughout Newburyport’s historic downtown

2010 Literary Festival Honoring Late Novelist John P. Marquand
The Newburyport Literary Festival this year is pleased to honor the late John P. Marquand (1893-1960), a Pulitzer-Prize winning novelist and a longtime resident of Newburyport.

Many of his books had themes that he developed from his life in this city, and for years he entertained his readers with characters and social situations that were resident in a seaside community north of Boston.

The Hampton Area Lions Club Annual Winter Auction will be held on Saturday, February 20th at the Galley Hatch Conference Center, Hampton, NH.

The auction starts at 6:00 pm and features live and silent auctions, as well as several specialty tables.

As in past years, the merchants of North Hampton, Hampton and Hampton Falls, as well as other businesses within the state and elsewhere,  have been very generous with donations to the auction.

Admission:
Admission to the auction is $10 per person with proceeds going to charity.

Where: Precinct Meeting Room of the century-old Hampton Beach Firehouse, Hampton Beach, NH

The Hampton Beach Village District is sponsoring an evening of ballroom dancing at Hampton Beach on Saturday, February 27th, from from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, in the precinct meeting room in the century-old beach firehouse.

Professional dance instructors will be on hand teaching the “swing” dance. Everyone is invited to attend for a fun evening of dancing.

Tickets: Tickets are $7 per person or $10 a couple. Please also bring a non-perishable food item for the St Vincent De Paul soup kitchen. A drop-off box will be located in the lobby of the fire station.

About The New Works Festival

Since 2002 The Firehouse Center for the Arts and the New Works Festival have fostered the development of New England writers, directors, and actors.

Providing insight on the play writing process from conception to presentation, this festival provides our community with a rare and special look at the abundant talent that surrounds us.

Submitted plays for the festival are judged by an independent panel of theater professionals in blind readings. This year’s panel consisted of seven members of the theatrical community.
