If you would like to help with a Plum Island beach cleanup, BOAT CAMP Inc, Newburyport, is looking for volunteers of all ages to help them with their beach cleanup on Sunday, March 14th.
BOAT CAMP Inc. has adopted the stretch of Plum Island beach that spans from Captain’s Fishing Parties’ pier to the South Jetty as it runs along the Merrimack River.
Meet at the playground on the northern end of Plum Island; BOAT CAMP will provide the gloves and bags.
Lobstermen tell us there’s a ton of stuff flowing downriver from the storm, so there should be plenty to pick up.
Celebrate the return to Daylight Savings with a walk on the beach with us!
Volunteers of all ages are welcome.

Plum Island Holiday Fair, PITA Hall, Saturday, December 5th

You can enjoy Plum Island and also take care of some holiday shopping on Saturday, December 5th by visiting the Plum Island Holiday Fair which is being held at the PITA (Plum Island Taxpayers Association) Hall, located on Plum Island Turnpike.
The annual Plum Island Holiday Fair will feature crafters from the island and local area.
Christmas trees will be sold, with free delivery to Plum Island residents.
Food and snacks will also be available.
Santa Will Be Attending
Santa will arrive via fire truck at 1:30 pm. Bring your camera to capture the moment.
Admission to the fair is free!

Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center is offering a Parent/Child Walkabout on Friday, November 30th to explore the secrets of the Plum Island beaches.
The program is being offered two times on Friday:
- from 10:00 to 11:30 am or
- from 1:00 to 2:30 pm.
You’ll explore the ecology, sights, and sounds of Plum Island in a fun, energetic format for families with children ages 3 to 6.
The walkabout will be led by Teacher-Naturalist Lisa Hutchings.

If you would like to help with a Plum Island beach cleanup, BOAT CAMP Inc, Newburyport, is looking for volunteers of all ages to help them with their beach cleanup on Sunday, September 13th.
BOAT CAMP Inc. has adopted the stretch of Plum Island beach that spans from Captain’s Fishing Parties’ pier to the South Jetty as it runs along the Merrimack River. This heavy use of this beach this summer has taken its toll based on the amount of debris left behind.
Join BOAT CAMP on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the Captain’s Fishing Parties’ pier for our second beach cleanup as part of Coastsweep weekend. They will provide bags, tally up the debris and recycle as much as possible.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome.

The 90 minute morning walk, which starts at 8:30 am, will explore the ecology, sights, and sounds of Plum Island in a fun, energetic format. The walk will be led by Teacher-Naturalist Lisa Hutchings.
The event is for families with children ages 3 to 6. The fee covers one adult and one child.

Sandy Point State Reservation on Plum Island is offering a free, one hour program, Tide Pool Explorers, during the week of August 24th through 28th.

- Tuesday, August 25th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 am
- Wednesday, August 26th, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm (noon)

Join Sandy Point’s naturalist for an exploration of the expansive tide pools that are found on this portion of Plum Island. During this program you’ll explore the wonders of the rocky intertidal zone and learn about the creatures who call this dynamic environment home.

Tidepooling for Kids!, Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, Newburyport, August 8th

The Parker River National Wildlife Refuge is offering a free, 90-minute program for children, Tidepools for Kids!, on Saturday, August 8th, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m.
The program, which is for children ages 4 to 12, will explore the beaches and tidepools of Plum Island. They will learn about hermit crabs, periwinkles and urchins and other inhabitants of local tide pools.
This free outdoor program is a great way to introduce a child to the wonderful world of tide pools. Participants will be walking in rocky and wet areas, so parental supervision and sturdy shoes are a must.
Shorts or pants that can be rolled up are recommended.
Greenheads will be around (though not as active in the morning), so bring the bug spray.
Meet at Refuge Parking Lot 7.
Please note that the outdoor program may be cancelled if there is inclement weather.
