“Immigrations Matters”
Come to the First Religious Society in Newburyport on Wednesday, October 5th and learn about the legal immigrants who are now coming to Massachusetts.
This month’s emphasis will be on the families coming here from Burma. James Si Si Aung, himself a refugee from Burma, is a Community Health Worker in the Refugee and Immigrant Health Program for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Isla Glaister, a citizen of Great Britain, has worked for non-profit organizations in and around Burma for the past five years.
These two individuals will be the guest speakers for the Immigration Matters Study group on Wednesday October 5 at 7:oo pm.
Their personal experience both in Burma and now in Massachusetts with these refugees is quite illuminating. Come and learn about your new neighbors.

The Newburyport Guide Holiday Fundraiser To Benefit Toys For Tots & The American Red Cross Disaster Relief
Newburyport Guide in celebration of its first year would like to invite you, friends, family and co-workers to our Holiday Fundraiser to benefit Toys For Tots & The American Red Cross Disaster Relief on Monday, November 28th at the Parish Hall located next to the Unitarian Church on Pleasant Street, Newburyport.
Silent Auction: A Silent auction will be held with items from our local business and all the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief fund.
Refreshments will be served from local businesses including your favorite chocolateier Simply Sweet, Gourmet Coffee from Fowle’s, and scrumptious appetizers from The Stoplight Café.

The Mass Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center offers a Wednesday Morning Birding program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
If you’re one of the lucky ones that has time available during the week, join Bill Gette, Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director and Dave Weaver, Birder’s Certificate Program graduate for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. Appropriate for all birding levels.
It’s a great way to observe birds in the area and identify some of the better locations for finding them when on your own.

Explore the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge during this interpretative program with Sue McGrath of Newburyport Birders on Saturday, September 24th.
The focus will be on field marks and where these migrants are headed. This is an excellent opportunity to watch bird behavior at this premier, birding destination.
Long-sleeved shirt and long pants are suggested.

5th Annual Brew Fest, Amesbury Sports Park, Saturday, September 24th

The Amesbury Sports Park will be hosting the 5th Annual Brew Feston Saturday, September 24, from 12:00 to 8:30 pm. at its facility at 12 South Hunt Road in Amesbury MA.
The Brew Fest, sponsored by Dos Equis, will feature a plethora of microbrews, barbecue, OGO (Outdoor Gravity Orb) and summer tubing rides and music by 6 live bands on an outdoor stage.
The Park’s Brew Fest attracted nearly 2,200 people last year, and they are expecting north of 4,500 people to attend the all day event this year.

The first session is a classroom session on Thursday, September 22nd, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The second session is a Saturday morning field trip on Saturday, September 24th, from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
