A cash bar is available and the event is accessible to the physically challenged.

The 11th Annual Newburyport Kitchen Tourwill take place on Saturday, July 30th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This hugely popular fundraiser benefits the Newburyport Elementary PTO.

You are invited to visit eleven of Newburyport’s most fabulous kitchens. These kitchens were chosen based on originality, design, and functionality. This year’s tour has an incredible line up. It will feature eleven uniquely different homes, including a beach house, many restored antiques, new construction, and a converted church.

Although kitchens are the focus of the tour, tour attendees can also enjoy a peek into other first floor living spaces.

INTRODUCTION TO BUTTERFLYING

Go on a field trip and learn how to identify butterflies and discuss life cycles, host plants, and behaviors. Children age 8 and up welcome. Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center is offering a two hour program, Introduction To Butterflying, for children ages 8 to 16 on Tuesday, July 26th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

After a short indoor introduction to some of the most common species of butterflies, we’ll search local fields, meadows, and gardens to see what we can find. We’ll talk about field identification, life cycles, host plants, and flight times while we learn to appreciate the delicate beauty of such wonderful creatures as American ladies, swallowtails, great spangled fritillaries, pearl crescents, monarchs, skippers, and more.

Exploring the Merrimack River by Kayak

The Merrimack River is a wonderful place to observe wildlife from a kayak.  During this all-day program, sponsored by the Joppa Flats Education Center and Plum Island Kayak, you’ll explore the river from scenic Rocks Village in Haverhill to Cashman Park in Newburyport.

We will explore the islands, mud bars, salt marshes, and shoreline of this beautiful river during a leisurely paddle. We expect to see egrets and herons, waterfowl, ospreys, shorebirds, and many other species.

Instruction in kayaking techniques and safety procedures will be provided by Plum Island Kayak. The fee covers single kayak rental. (Subtract $10 per person for double kayak rental and $15 per person if you use your own kayak.)

Experience Level: Beginner II (No experience required; some stamina necessary). Paddling time: 5 hours with a 1-hour lunch break. This event is for adults.

Flatbread Company is pleased to present Bill Plante and The Pleasant Valley Social Club at this week’s Music in the Millyard series on Thursday, July 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Al Capp Amphitheater, 5 Market Square in downtown Amesbury.

Flatbread Company will be accepting donations of canned fruits and vegetables, juice (boxes or bottles), shampoo and deodorant (women’s and men’s) on behalf of Amesbury-based Our Neighbors’ Table.

In addition, the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bankwill be selling a 5th Anniversary Music in the Millyard commemorative stadium-style seat cushion with proceeds going to the Amesbury Public School’s Music Department. Seats can be purchased for $5 at the concert, or at the bank’s two Amesbury locations, 43 Main Street and 40 Friend Street.

Board the Prince of Whalesin Newburyport, MA for a four hour birding and whale watching trip guided by Newburyport Whale Watch marine mammal naturalists and Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center staff.

This trip focuses on seabirds, but we also plan on seeing and learning about marine mammals as well. Onboard the Prince of Whales, we will look for concentrations of birds such as storm-petrels, shearwaters, gannets, jaegers, terns, and phalaropes.

Dave Larson from the Joppa Flats Education Center will join the Prince of Whales marine mammal naturalists onboard to help spot and narrate bird sightings.

On Saturday, July 23rd you can take a 90-minute guided tour of the former Moseley family estate core that is now encompassed by Maudslay State Park, in Newburyport.

Maudslay State Park, the former Moseley family estate on the Merrimack River, is one of the jewels of the Greater Newburyport region. The 480-acre park offers commanding views of the Merrimack River and features 19th century gardens and plantings, rolling meadows, towering pines, and one of the largest naturally-occurring stands of mountain laurel in Massachusetts.

The Mosley Family purchased this lovely piece of property and turned it into a regal, landscaped estate, complete with formal gardens and green houses. Come learn the history of this family, the resources that they preserved and the changes in the land over time.

The Riverfront Festival is a free show open to the public, so attendees are encouraged to get there early with beach blankets & chairs for a day of great live music.

Join the Maudslay State Park park interpreter on this moderately paced walk walk to view different areas of the park and experience various interpretations. You will experience the changes in Maudslay over the spring, summer and fall. A perfect after work activity.

The Thursday evening stroll is a great way to get a more informed view of what is in the park and its history. A different trail is taken every week so by the end of the summer, you will have walked the entire park!
