Sandy Point State Reservation on Plum Island is offering a free program, Tidepool Explorers, on Tuesday, June 21st. The program is approximately an hour long.
Join Sandy Point’s park interpreter at Sandy Point State Reservation for an exploration of our expansive tide pools. Explore the wonders of the rocky intertidal zone at the foot of Bar Head Drumlin and learn about the creatures who call this dynamic environment home.
Buckets and nets provided
Where To Meet: Meet at the entrance sign near the Upper Lot.
Children of all ages are welcome but those under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
All programs are free and open to the public. Parking is free, but space is limited.

You are are invited to join the park interpreter of Maudslay State Park, Newburyport, for a ponding adventure at the Park’s back pond to discover what is living in this aquatic habitat.
Participants should wear waterproof boots and long pants!
Nets and buckets are provided.
The program lasts about an hour.

Meet at the Park headquarters building on 74 Curzon Mill Road.
This program is for ages 5 and up. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Join the Maudslay State Park park interpreter in this excellent evening park adventure for families. In June, the fireflies delight us with their nighttime dance and spectacular light show.
Learn about the life of a firefly and take a firefly walk led by the park interpreter. Bring a net or jar to catch fireflies.
Please bring bug spray and wear comfortable walking shoes. This is a free event!

The Mass Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center offers a Wednesday Morning Birding program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
If you’re one of the lucky ones that has time available during the week, join Bill Gette, Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director and Dave Weaver, Birder’s Certificate Program graduate for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. Appropriate for all birding levels.
It’s a great way to observe birds in the area and identify some of the better locations for finding them when on your own.

Rip It & Clip It Fundraiser for Nate Bibaud
Help raise money and awareness for the Nate Bibaud Recovery Fund at the Rip It & Clip It Fundraiser on Friday, June 17th from 6 to 11:30 p.m at Amesbury Sports Park.
Brave souls, including Amesbury Mayor Thatcher Kezer, Newburyport Mayor Donna Holaday, Essex County Sheriff Frank Cousins and Provident Bank CEO Charlie Cullen will be having their hair shaved, buzzed or cut in order to help raise funds for Nate Bibaud, who was paralyzed in a December 2001 car accident.
The event will feature live music, cash bar and a silent auction. Former Boston Bruins Rick Middleton and Terry O’Reilly will be on hand to sign autographs.

Harbor Seal Cruise Aboard The Yankee Clipper, Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport, Sunday, June 19th

On Sunday, June 19th, Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport, is offering a harbor seal cruise aboard the Yankee Clipper.
Lisa Hutchings of Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center and the crew of Harbor Tour’s Yankee Clipper will host this cruise of the ecosystem of the lower Merrimack River that runs through Newburyport, Amesbury and Salisbury.
In addition to looking for harbor seals, we’ll conduct hands-on science as we collect water samples, live specimens, and plankton. We’ll also look for wading birds, and waterfowl on every trip. Your family will have a wonderful time exploring and learning about this vital part of the area’s natural history.

No preregistration required. Preregistration is not required. Runs most Saturdays. Please call ahead to confirm. Minimum age: 8 years. A parent or guardian must accompany children.

INTRODUCTION TO SEA KAYAKING
On Thursday, June 23rd, Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport, and Plum Island Kayak, Newburyport, are co-hosting an Introduction To Sea Kayaking course from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
Participants will learn the basics of sea kayaking with an evening outing in the Plum Island estuary. Kayak and equipment rental are included in the fee.
Participants will learn safety precautions and paddling techniques and will gain confidence handling these very seaworthy boats. Participants will then paddle into the Plum Island estuary and explore tidal creeks, mudflats, and salt marshes.
