The Mass Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center offers a Wednesday Morning Birding program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

If you’re one of the lucky ones that has time available during the week, join Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director Bill Gette and USFWS veteran David Weaver for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. It’s a great way to observe birds in the area and identify some of the better locations for finding them when on your own.

Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee Sponsored Hikes

You are welcome to join the Wednesday morning hikes that are sponsored by the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee.

An informal group meets at the Town Landing on East Street, Ipswich at 9:30 am on each Wednesday from mid September to mid June. All are welcome.

The morning hikes explore the woods and trails in and about Ipswich. There are eleven miles of marked trails in Ipswich, Massachusetts, including a portion of the Bay Circuit Trail. These trails are maintained by members of the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee (IBCTC) with other volunteers, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and other organizations in Ipswich.

INVESTIGATE, CREATE, & LEARN: SAND DUNES – SEASHORE SUPERHEROES

Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport is offering “Investigate, Create & Learn: Sand Dunes – Seashore Superheroes” an after-school program for children ages 6 to 9 to learn about local wildlife. On Wednesday, March 24th, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m, Teacher-Naturalist Lisa Hutchings invites children age 6 to 9 to learn about and sand dunes and their importance to barrier beach habitats.

Fee: Children $12 (members)/ $16 (non-members)

How To Register: Pre-registration is required. You must register to attend this event. To register, please call the Mass Audubon Joppa Flats Education Center at 978-462-9998.

Parents are encouraged to stay during this program.

WEDNESDAY MORNING BIRDING ON CAPE ANN

The Mass Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport is offering a special Wednesday Morning Birding field trip around Cape Ann on December 15th from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Join Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director Bill Gette and USFWS veteran David Weaver for this special birding field trip around Cape Ann which is appropriate for all birding levels.

This very popular program provides an excellent opportunity to explore one of the most productive birding areas in the country. To date, over 310 species of birds have been observed on these Wednesday field trips.

Where To Meet:  Meet in Gloucester at the Friendly’s restaurant at the first traffic circle on Route 128.

Registration not required. Please wear appropriate clothes and bring binoculars, spotting scopes, and snacks or lunch.

Fee: Adults $12.00 (members)/ $15.00(non-members)

Join family educator Lisa Hutchings of Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats EducationCenter, Newburyport on Saturday, December 11th for this adults-only exploration of the wrack line on the beaches of the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island.

During this two-hour program, you’ll discover all the cool things you never knew about the nature of the beach’s wrack line, that area of the beach that contains the seaweed and other debris left on the beach by the last high tide.
