Rally To Restore Sanity Newburyport
On Saturday, October 30th, residents from Greater Newburyport, the Merrimack Valley and the Greater North Shore can join the “Rally to Restore Sanity” sponsored by Comedy Central’s TV personality Jon Stewart, without traveling further than downtown Newburyport.
Local residents are working together to stage a “Satellite Rally” in Brown Square and City Hall in conjunction with the rally on the National Mall sponsored by the Daily Show’s host. Events are scheduled to begin at Brown Square at 10:30 AM.
“Tens of thousands of people are expected to be at the Mall in Washington for these rallies,” said Deb Massa, one of the local organizers. “We thought a Newburyport event would give those unable to go to DC a chance to join Stewart and Colbert in their cause to restore civility to our public discourse.”
To Feature Local Entertainment
The Newburyport event will feature entertainment by local musicians and stand-up comedians, and will culminate in a live stream of the DC rally in the City Hall Auditorium from noon to 3.
Rally participants can enjoy refreshments and create their own “Sane Signs” with materials provided.
“We will be joining those at other satellite rallies being held in cities like San Francisco, Chicago, Houston and Seattle in supporting the message that Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert are taking to the country,” Massa said
Fellow organizer and Amesbury resident Tom MacLachlan said: “It has been a long time since we’ve had any fun at a political event! I, for one, am looking forward to it. We hope lots of community members will join us to support the effort to restore sanity to our national politics.”
