Rally To Restore Sanity Newburyport
On Saturday, October 30th, residents from Greater Newburyport, the Merrimack Valley and the Greater North Shore can join the “Rally to Restore Sanity” sponsored by Comedy Central’s TV personality Jon Stewart, without traveling further than downtown Newburyport.
Newburyport joins 957 other locations around the world in a Rally to Restore Sanity. These satellite events are taking place as far away as Mt. Everest Base Camp and Sydney, Australia.
Local residents are working together to stage a “Satellite Rally” in Brown Square and City Hall in conjunction with the rally on the National Mall sponsored by the Daily Show’s host. Events are scheduled to begin at Brown Square at 10:30 AM.
The Newburyport event will feature entertainment by local musicians and stand-up comedians, and will culminate in a live stream of the DC rally in the City Hall Auditorium from noon to 3:oo pm.

You are welcome to join the Wednesday morning hikes that are sponsored by the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee.
An informal group meets at the Town Landing on East Street, Ipswich at 9:30 am on each Wednesday from mid September to mid June. All are welcome.
The morning hikes explore the woods and trails in and about Ipswich. There are eleven miles of marked trails in Ipswich, Massachusetts, including a portion of the Bay Circuit Trail. These trails are maintained by members of the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee (IBCTC) with other volunteers, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and other organizations in Ipswich.

The Mass Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center offers a Wednesday Morning Birding program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
If you’re one of the lucky ones that has time available during the week, join Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director Bill Gette and USFWS veteran David Weaver for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. It’s a great way to observe birds in the area and identify some of the better locations for finding them when on your own.

Halloween Block Party Fundraiser to Benefit Lyla Grace Stroman of Newburyport
Please join the friends, volunteers and family of Lyla Grace Stroman for a very special Halloween Community Block Party on Dalton Street on Saturday, October 30th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Friends and family have come together to transform this block party into a benefit fundraiser for Lyla Grace Stroman, as she begins a round of necessary surgeries to repair several holes in her heart.
Lyla Grace Stroman, was born 6 weeks premature on May 30th, 2010 and received a diagnosis of Trisomy 18 shortly after birth. For more information about Trisomy 18, please visit the Trisomy 18 and Trisomy websites.
Lyla spent the first 6 weeks of her life at Children’s Hospital, Boston, coming home on her actual due date of July 8. Her family was not given much hope that Lyla would survive her hospital stay, let alone all the time they have been blessed to have her here with them in Newburyport.
Lyla is now home, surrounded by the love of her parents Irene and George, brothers Jack and Oscar, as well as her big sister Emme and a large extended family and community.
This fundraiser is a FREE event, but a suggested $15.00 donation (per family) or donation of any size is greatly appreciated. We will be passing around a ‘donation hat’ as well that evening!
Live Music: Live Music featuring the Dalton Street Band (4-6) & the Tom Tolley Band (7-8:30) - Times may vary.
Activities:Bouncy house, face-painting, crafts, etc.
Food: chili-cook off – this is a BYOB event!

If you want to explore the local area and see the birds of the Greater Newburyport/Plum Island area, join Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport program, on Saturday morning, October 30th as they search for local avian activity in the region.

Mass Audubon’s Camp Wildwood Director Bob Speare will lead this workshop and field trip. Bob has a deep interest and expertise in photography and teaches photography classes for Mass Audubon sanctuaries across the state.

Family Day at the Joppa Flats Bird Banding Station
Are you curious about bird banding? Do you want to see how a real bird banding station operates?
If you are, bring the family to the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge for an exciting, up-close look at migrating birds as they are netted and evaluated before releasing.
The Bird Banding Station is open at the height of migration in September and October. You’ll learn about migration, habitat use, and scientific research at a real field station.
Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport is offering two opportunities to tour and explore its Joppa Flats Bird Banding Station on the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, Newburyport.
Two tours are being offered on Saturday, October 24th at the following times. Each tour is for two hours.

- 10:30 am to 12:30 pm
