Wednesday Morning Birding, Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport, October 6th

The Mass Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center offers a Wednesday Morning Birding program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
If you’re one of the lucky ones that has time available during the week, join Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director Bill Gette and USFWS veteran David Weaver for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. It’s a great way to observe birds in the area and identify some of the better locations for finding them when on your own.

Les Petit Chanteurs and Chamber Ensemble, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Newburyport, Monday October 4th

Where: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 166 High St., Newburyport, MA
On Monday evening, October 4th, you can spend an evening listening to the Les Petit Chamteurs and Chamber Ensemble from the Holy Trinity Music School, Port au Prince, Haiti and at the same time help support the rebuilding of the school’s buildings which were completely destroyed in the January 2010 earthquake that devastated the country.
The school’s Les Petit Chamteurs and Chamber Ensemble will be performing a concert at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newburyport. All proceeds from the concert will go toward the rebuilding of the Holy Trinity Music School buildings.

Vibrance, Featured Artist Exhibition At The Newburyport Art Association, Thursday, September 30th Through October 6th

Vibrance, a Featured Artist exhibition at the Newburyport Art Association, opens on Thursday, September 30th. The exhibition features the works of Barbara Kremer, a watercolorist specializing in landscapes and nature photographers, Paul Osborne and Catherine Davis.
The trio has teamed up for a combined featured artists exhibition. They work in different media but share a passion for color and the interplay of light and shadow. The exhibition runs from Thursday, Septmeber 30th through Wednesday, October 6th at the Laura Coombs Hills Gallery, Newburyport.

Sandy Point State Reservation on Plum Island is offering a free program, Pervasive Invasives, on Thursday, September 30th. The program is approximately 60 minutes long.
There are aliens among us! While they may seem like they have always belonged here, many plant species are actually NOT native to this area and can do more harm than good (sometimes). This program will show you how to identify them, find out how they got here, and compare them to some of our native species.
Where To Meet: Meet in the second parking lot.
Children of all ages are welcome but those under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
All programs are free and open to the public. Parking is free, but space is limited.

Sandy Point State Reservation on Plum Island is offering a free program, Beyond the Beach, on Monday, September 13th. The program is approximately 60 to 90 minutes long.
There’s more to Sandy Point than just tidepools, sand and sea! Join Sandy Point’s naturalist and discover this seldom-explored side of the Reservation as we hike along the Western trail bordered by the Refuge Salt Marsh and the dunes. We will focus on the ecology and geology of this part of the Reservation.

Sandy Point State Reservation on Plum Island is offering a free, one hour program, Bar Head Hike, on Wednesday, September 29th.
Join Sandy Point’s naturalist for an exploration of the 15,000 years of geological, biological and cultural history at Sandy Point. Find out what a drumlin is and why the one at Bar Head on Plum Island is important as we hike along the beach, culminating in a trip up the Drumlin Trail.

5th Annual Haverhill Brewery Riverfront Fest At The TAP Brewpub, Saturday, September 25th

Tickets are now available for the 5th Annual Haverhill Brewery Riverfront Feston Saturday, September 25th at The TAP Brewpub, Haverhill.
There are two sessions at the brew fest and both sessions include a chance to sample beers from 20 different craft breweries, a souvenir tasting glass and live music!
- Session 1 runs from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Music by Hoodoo Revelator and others.
- Session 2 runs from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Music by Merrimack Delta Dub set and others.
Tickets can be purchased online (have a $4 surcharge) or at the door on the day of the beerfest for $30.

Family Ecology Cruise Aboard The Yankee Clipper, Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport, Saturday, September 25th

On Saturday, September 25th, Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport, is offering a family ecology cruise aboard the Yankee Clipper.
Lisa Hutchings of Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center and the crew of Harbor Tour’s Yankee Clipper will host this exploratory cruise of the ecosystem of the lower Merrimack River that runs through Newburyport, Amesbury and Salisbury.
You’ll conduct hands-on science as we collect water samples, live specimens, and plankton. We’ll also look for wading birds, seals, and waterfowl on every trip. Your family will have a wonderful time exploring and learning about this vital part of the area’s natural history.
The tour is being offered from 8:45 am to 10:45 am. This is a nice way to see and learn about the ecology of the lower Merrimack River ecosystem.
