Blue Ocean Society Sea Life Discovery Center Now Open At Salisbury Beach, MA

The Sea Life Discovery Center at Salisbury Beach features marine life touch tanks, observation tanks, and interesting artifacts such as whale bones, baleen and a giant barnacle that came from a whale. Check out examples of the marine life from our local waters in the Gulf of Maine!
The center’s brand new, state-of-the-art touch tank was made possible by a donation from the Blue Ocean Music Hall in Salisbury Beach!

Hampton Beach Fireworks, Wednesday, June 30th

For all of you “fireworks lovers”, if you just can’t wait for the Fourth of July fireworks, you can catch the Wednesday evening weekly fireworks display at Hampton Beach, NH tonight at 9:30 pm.
While you are there, check out the sand sculptures from the 10th Annual Master Sand Sculpting Competition that concluded last Saturday. This is the last day that they will be on display, and they will be illuminated for night viewing.

Marcus Gale brings music and a menagerie of puppets with him when he performs in the Millyard June 30th. This is a fun-filled evening for children and the young at heart.
This kids evening will feature a variety of activities and entertainment, including the following:
- Teddy Bear Check-up(sponsored by Anna Jaques Hospital) – Encourage your children to bring their favorite stuffed toy to the play hospital, and have the nurses explain what happens during a check-up.

INTRODUCTION TO BUTTERFLYING
Go on a field trip and learn how to identify butterflies and discuss life cycles, host plants, and behaviors. Children age 8 and up welcome. Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center is offering a two hour program, Introduction To Butterflying, for children ages 8 to 16 on Tuesday, July 6th, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
After a short indoor introduction to some of the most common species of butterflies, we’ll search local fields, meadows, and gardens to see what we can find. We’ll talk about field identification, life cycles, host plants, and flight times while we learn to appreciate the delicate beauty of such wonderful creatures as American ladies, swallowtails, great spangled fritillaries, pearl crescents, monarchs, skippers, and more.

The tournament is a best-ball format with an 8:00 am shotgun start.

The Mass Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center offers a Wednesday Morning Birding program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
If you’re one of the lucky ones that has time available during the week, join Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director Bill Gette and USFWS veteran David Weaver for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. It’s a great way to observe birds in the area and identify some of the better locations for finding them when on your own.

Looking for an excuse to be on the beach on a nice Wednesday summer evening?
The Blue Ocean Society is having a beach cleanup at Jenness Beach, Rye, NH on Wednesday evening, June 30th at 6:00 pm.
They provide all supplies, although it’s great if you can bring your own work gloves as that minimizes the number of disposable gloves they’ll have to use.
The cleanup starts off with a brief orientation, then we’ll head out to the beach to pick up litter and record our findings as part of our long-term study on marine pollution.
After the cleanup, we’ll weigh the trash and tally data cards. The whole process takes 1-2 hours.
Metered parking is available in the lot at the beach, or free parking is available along the roadside.
