16th Annual Draft Horse Plow Day
Celebrate the arrival of spring at Spencer Pierce Little Farm, Newbury and stop by and check out the 16th Annual Draft Horse Plow Day activities that will be going on at the farm.
The Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm, a National Historic Landmark, is a family-friendly site with activities for visitors of all ages. It features an imposing architectural jewel, a late seventeenth-century major house built as the country seat of wealthy Newburyport merchants. It is also a foster farm in partnership with the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, with farm animals that may be visited year round.
Draft Horse Plow Day Activities
Teams of draft horses and mules from throughout New England participate in plowing demonstrations as part of this annual event. Learn how horses are harnessed, hitched, and cared for.
- Watch the sheep shearing and see how the wool is washed, carded, and spun into yarn.
- Enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, farm animals, blacksmithing demonstrations, children’s crafts and games, lunch and more.
- Listen to fiddle music from E. J. Ouelette and watch a puppet show by Martha Dana.
And for all you connoisseurs of fine American Craft Beers, one of the North Shore’s best ales, Ipswich Ale, will be on draft!
