On Thursday, April 29th, the Essex Shipbuilding Museum is holding the third of four presentations as part of its symposium in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the return of the Evelina M. Goulart, a rare transitional dragger built at the A.D. Story Shipyard in Essex, Massachusetts in 1927.
The dragger, returned in 1990, is one of seven remaining Essex-built schooners in existence and has now been on exhibit at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum for longer than most of her sisters survived at sea.

The 5th annual Newburyport Spring Fever 5K and Family Fun Runwill be held on Sunday, May 2nd, rain or shine. The event, sponsored by the Newburyport Elementary PTO, benefits the Newburyport elementary schools.
Come run through the scenic streets of beautiful downtown Newburyport and enjoy some of the best surroundings New England has to offer. The family fun run starts at 12:00 pm for children 5th grade and under, walkers start at 12:40 pm and the USATF certified and sanctioned 5K starts at 1:00 pm.
Local talent “Don’t Call me Shirley” will provide musical entertainment, while local merchants supply delicious food.
Prizes will be awarded to top female/male competitor in each class.
All proceeds from this fundraising event benefit Newburyport’s public elementary schools.

In-Person Registration, Amesbury Soccer Association 2010 Summer Recreational Program, Thursday, April 29th

Registration is now underway for the Amesbury Soccer Association’s (ASA) summer recreational program. The ASA welcomes all players ages 4 through 15 (as of August 31, 2009) with any skill level.
It’s a fun way for beginners to get to know the game and a great way for advanced players to stay in touch over the off-season. Players from all towns are welcomed and do not need to be Amesbury residents.
You can register in-person on Thursday, April 29th, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Cashman Elementary School, Amesbury (cafeteria).

This Pre-Race Event is meant to give everyone (especially race participants!) a chance to eat healthy carbs and get psyched for one of the Newburyport Elementary PTO’s largest family events of the year.

11th Annual Hershey Youth Program Starts April 27th At Fuller Track, Newburyport

Cost: $30.00 for boys and girls, 9 thorugh 14 years of age
The Hershey National Youth Track and Field program, sponsored locally by the Winner’s Circle Running Club, will start on Tuesday, April 27th at Fuller Track in Newburyport.
It is open to all area youth ages 9-14. Events vary with age from sprints, middle distance and softball throw.
The local Hershey meet is June 15th, and the state meet is June 26th for qualifiers.
Fee: The program fee is $30.

Sue McGrath of Newburyport Birders will be partaking in a 3-Day (60 mile) Walk to Cure Breast Cancer with her nieces Jane and Courtney on July 23rd to 25th in Boston. Sue’s sister Nancy (Jane’s mother and Courtney’s aunt] passed away from breast cancer at age 40 many years ago. Today, the chances of survival are much greater, and it is research and improved treatments that make this possible.
Sue will also be holding a series of fund raising/birding walks on the Parker River Wildlife Refuge on Tuesday evenings in April. The group will search for spring migrants and enjoy the sights and sounds of spring evenings.

You are welcome to join the Wednesday morning hikes that are sponsored by the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee.
An informal group meets at the Town Landing on East Street, Ipswich at 9:30 am on each Wednesday from mid September to mid June. All are welcome.
The morning hikes explore the woods and trails in and about Ipswich. There are eleven miles of marked trails in Ipswich, Massachusetts, including a portion of the Bay Circuit Trail. These trails are maintained by members of the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee (IBCTC) with other volunteers, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and other organizations in Ipswich.
