On Thursday, April 29th, the Essex Shipbuilding Museum is holding the third of four presentations as part of its symposium in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the return of the Evelina M. Goulart, a rare transitional dragger built at the A.D. Story Shipyard in Essex, Massachusetts in 1927.

The dragger, returned in 1990, is one of seven remaining Essex-built schooners in existence and has now been on exhibit at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum for longer than most of her sisters survived at sea.

Join Museum members this Thursday night at 7:00 pm. in the Waterline Center of the Essex Shipbuilding Museum for the third part of the Evelina M. Goulart Symposium.

The evening will begin with a virtual video tour below deck on the Evelina M. Goulart. The video was made in 1995 by Barry O’Brien and hosted by Frank Lusido.

Following this fascinating voyage, Museum volunteers Leslie Moore, David Brown and Harold Burnham will discuss how the gift of the Evelina M. Goulart started a whole chain of events to draw visitors to the Town of Essex by re-kindling its history as a shipbuilding town.

The panel discussion will review the many initiatives the museum taken to preserve and interpret this unique the vessel over the past 20 years as a living example of our maritime history.

The evening will be topped off by a friendly get-together over coffee and snacks to exchange ideas regarding the future of this unique part of the museum’s collection.

Admission:

$10 for each single session; $25 for all four sessions
