Ibsen’s most famous work is often referred to as the first true Feminist play. It is also a critical piece of theatre history as it marks the beginning of the Realism/Naturalism movement. The ‘shocking’ events within the play were the first time a realistic portrayal of marriage and family were depicted on stage, and Ibsen received a fair amount of criticism for his point of view.
This three act play is an excellent piece for students of all ages as it touches on such subjects as literature, history, sociology and psychology.
