Essex County Sportsmen’s Association Annual Ice Fishing Tournament, Artichoke Resevoir, Newburyport, Sunday, February 7th

If you want to try your hand at ice fishing, then check out the Essex County Sportsmen’s Association Annual Ice Fishing Tournament that is being held on the Artichoke Reservoir on Super Bowl Sunday, February 7th.

Last year’s tournament, which was resumed by the ECSA last year after about a 10-year hiatus, attracted 60 fishermen. With good ice fishing conditions on the reservoir so far this year, the association hopes to more than double last year’s turnout.

The Ice Fishing Tournament is being held on the Artichoke Reservoir tournament from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Participants should meet at the Turkey Hill Road parking area next to the Artichoke, which is located on The Newburyport/West Newbury area of the Artichoke.

Tournament Entry Fee:

Entry fee is $20, which also enters fishermen into the raffle at the end of the tournament. Burgers, hot dogs and other food and beverages will also be available.

Prizes will be awarded for the three biggest bass and pickerel, and another prize for biggest fish other than a pickerel or bass.

The Top prize for bass and pickerel will be $150 each; second place gets $100 and third gets $75. The largest miscellaneous fish — perch, crappie, eel, catfish or other species — will be $50.

Raffle prizes include gift certificates and fishing equipment.

All proceeds from the tournament benefit the ECSA, which recently built a new clubhouse and also pays for youths to attend conservation camp each year.
