The Mass Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center offers a Wednesday Morning Birding program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

If you’re one of the lucky ones that has time available during the week, join Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director Bill Gette and USFWS veteran David Weaver for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. It’s a great way to observe birds in the area and identify some of the better locations for finding them when on your own.

Newburyport High School Hockey Team To Face Tewksbury In Quarter Finals, Friday, February 26th

Ayfter demolishing Methuen, 7-1, in their opening round game of the 2010 MIAA Boys Ice Hockey North Division 2 Tournament, the Newburyport Clippers (15-4-2) will have their hands full when they face off against the Tewksbury Redmen (14-5-2) in Friday’s quarter final game at Stoneham Arena (5:00 pm start).

Both teams are evenly matched with similar records. Newburyport is the Number 4 seed in the North Division 2 bracket and Tewksbury is the Number 5 seed. Tewksbury also had a srtong performance in their opening round game as they dismantled the Beverly Panthers, 8-2.

Newburyport will have to come out and play a flawless and solid game to keep on their march for their second, consecutive North Division 2 Championship. The winner of this game will move on to the Semi-Finals.

Newburyport is in a tough bracket. If they move on to the Semi-Finals it doesn’t get any easier as they may be facing Wilmington (20-0-1) for a chance to move on to the Finals. No way around it for the Clippers, they will have to earn it the hard way this year by playing some of the best teams in their division that are in their bracket.

The 5:00 pm game will be broadcast live on WNBP-1450 on the radio and via digital streaming from the WNBP-1450 website.

Central Congregational Church, UCC, Newburyport is hosting “The Renaissance Concert” with Primal Polyphony and guitarist, George Little on Sunday March 7th at 4:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the church.

The concert will feature works by John Dowland, William Byrd, Luys Milan, and Alonso Mudurra. “We are glad to offer this concert to the community in celebration of our rich musical heritage,” said the Reverend Christopher Ney, pastor of Central Congregational Church.

Early Release Day Ski Trip At Wachusett Mountain, Newburyport Youth Services, Thursday, March 4th

Newburyport Youth Services (NYS) is offering an afternoon ski trip to Wachusett Mountain on Thursday, March 4th, a scheduled early release day for City of Newburyport schools.

The ski trip is open to children in grades 6-12. 

Spend an afternoon on the slopes with NYS skiing and snowboarding. Youth will be able to explore the many trails that Wachusett Mountain has to offer, leaving their homework behind.

NYS will pick you up at school as soon as the bell rings. Please note the late return — 8:00 pm.

Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee Sponsored Hikes

You are welcome to join the Wednesday morning hikes that are sponsored by the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee.

An informal group meets at the Town Landing on East Street, Ipswich at 9:30 am on each Wednesday from mid September to mid June. All are welcome.

The morning hikes explore the woods and trails in and about Ipswich. There are eleven miles of marked trails in Ipswich, Massachusetts, including a portion of the Bay Circuit Trail. These trails are maintained by members of the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee (IBCTC) with other volunteers, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and other organizations in Ipswich.

Mr. Fenton is an accomplished wildlife photographer with an impressive portfolio of North Shore wildlife photographs. He will share his experiences and discuss the hows, wheres, and whens of wildlife photography on the Massachusetts North Shore.

Newburyport High School Hockey Team Starts Quest For 2nd State Division Two Championship

It will be difficult to top last year’s hockey season for the Newburyport Clippers, which culminated in the Clippers winning their first Division 2 hockey state championship at TD Garden against Canton high school.

But to “repeat” and win a second state Division 2 championship might do the trick!

The Newburyport Clippers (14-4-2) start their quest for a second, straight state Division 2 championship tonight at the Stoneham Arena where they will face off against Methuen high school (9-7-4).

The 6:00 pm game will be broadcast live on WNBP-1450 on the radio and via digital streaming from the WNBP-1450 website.
