Fundraiser For Haiti, Book Rack, Newburyport, Thursday, January 28th

Where: Book Rack, 52 State Street, Newburyport, MA
The Book Rackin Newburyport, along with its sister stores, The Andover Bookstore in Andover and The Spirit of ’76 in Marblehead, will be holding fundraisers for Haiti next Thursday, January 28th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
During these two hours, 20% of all sales made will be donated directly to The International Red Cross.
Additionally, copies of Putumayo World Music’s French Caribbean CD will be for sale. Putumayo will be donating 100% of the proceeds to Haitian relief efforts.
Please visit the Book Rack and help then raise money to help the vast number of people in need. Every little bit helps!

The Mass Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center offers a Wednesday Morning Birding program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
If you’re one of the lucky ones that has time available during the week, join Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director Bill Gette and USFWS veteran David Weaver for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. It’s a great way to observe birds in the area and identify some of the better locations for finding them when on your own.

Investigate, Create & Learn: All About Owls, After School Program, Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport, Wednesday, January 27th

Owls are the feature of this month’s “Investigate, Create & Learn” after-school program at Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, Newburyport.
Teacher-Naturalist Lisa Hutchings invites children age 6 to 9 to learn about local wildlife in this after-school program offered at the Newburyport center. Each class is geared to enhance and strengthen a bond to nature and ecological awareness through a variety of subjects, creative art, or research projects.
Children will learn about wildlife, habitats, and the importance of making smart environmental choices. And the class always end with a tasty, thematic treat!
Fee:
The fee is $14. Additional siblings: $8 for members, $12 for nonmembers.
Parents are welcome, but they are not required to stay.
Pre-registration is required.
Instructions and Directions:
Meet at the Joppa Flats Education Center. Please dress for the weather since we will go outside in all but extreme conditions.

EDUCATION VOLUNTEER TRAINING AT JOPPA FLATS EDUCATION CENTER
Do you love the outdoors and sharing nature with children? If you do, become an education volunteer at Joppa Flats!
Throughout the school year, Joppa Flats staff and volunteers offer a wide range of coastal ecology and birding programs for children on-site at Joppa Flats, at schools, and in various wild habitats.
Learn to assist children’s educator Lisa Hutchings in coastal ecology and birding programs in the field and at schools. No experience necessary. Post-training commitment: two half-days per month.
To prepare its volunteers to assist with these quality programs, Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center provides complete in-the-field training. You’ll learn a wide variety of hands-on activities and experiments pertaining to levels of questioning, learning modalities, and using objects in nature to practice science.
Join the Center’s crew of trained naturalists and help Mass Audubon with its mission to increase awareness and inspire stewardship of the natural world.

The Friends of the Ipswich Public Library are sponsoring a two day book sale at the Ipswich Public Library on Saturday, February 6th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 7th from 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Collins Room of the library.
There will be a large variety of paperback and hardcover titles for adults and children as well as CD’s and DVD’s.
The proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase a sound system for library programs.
Wednesday Morning Hike, Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail, January 27th

Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee Sponsored Hikes
You are welcome to join the Wednesday morning hikes that are sponsored by the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee.
An informal group meets at the Town Landing on East Street, Ipswich at 9:30 am on each Wednesday from mid September to mid June. All are welcome.
The morning hikes explore the woods and trails in and about Ipswich. There are eleven miles of marked trails in Ipswich, Massachusetts, including a portion of the Bay Circuit Trail. These trails are maintained by members of the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee (IBCTC) with other volunteers, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and other organizations in Ipswich.
