Greater Newburyport High School Hockey, Saturday, January 23rd

The local River Rival schools are all playing on Saturday, January 23rd with two early afternoon games and one evening game.

Early Afternoon Hockey Games:

Masconomet at Amesbury, Noon at the Graf Rink, Newburyport

Amesbury is playing Masconomet at the Graf Rink, Newburyport. Amesbury tied Masconomet the last time they played, 4-4. Masco (7-3-1) will be out to win tomorrow. Could be a tough game for Amesbury (1-8-2)

Pentucket at Wilmington, 12:15 p.m.

Pentucket (1-5-2) has the unenvialble task of traveling to Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington and taking the ice against the Wilmington Wildcats (11-0-0). With Pentucket’s penchants for taking penalties, this game could get ugly fast for Pentucket.. Wilmington has the speed, size and talent and are at the head of the class in the Cape Ann League (CAL) this year.

Evening Game:

Triton at Newburyport, 7:00 p.m. at the Graf Rink

The only thing that should be on Newburyport’s (8-3-1) mind is winning the game and getting closer to qualifying for the state tournament. They need only three more points to qualify and can pick up two with a win against Triton (2-8-1). Triton is having a difficult year and came out on the short end of the stick (7-1) in a penalty filled affair with Newburyport the last time the two teams played. If Newburyport keeps their focus and composure, they should have a strong game. If they can’t, then Triton could make it an interesting game.

At this point in time, Newburyport is the only team in the local area with a strong probability of playing in the state tournament at the end of the season. It’s been a tough year for the Amesbury, Triton and Pentucket hockey teams.
