Greater Newburyport High School Hockey, Saturday, January 30th
January 30, 2010
It may actually be warmer in an ice skating rink today than it is outside today. If you like watching high school hockey, there are three games on the schedule for Saturday, January 30th… two afternoon games and two evening games.
Afternoon Games:
- Rockport at Amesbury, 12:00 pm at the Graf Rink, Newburyport
Amesbury (1-10-2) is better than their record indicates. They have been in a rebuilding program the past three years and play in one of the toughest high school hockey leagues (Cape Ann League) going up against the likes of Newburyport, Wilmington and Masconomet. The Rockport Manchester high school hockey program is a combined effort of two high schools, Rockport and Manchester Essex (7-5). This is the best year yet that the team has had. But they will have their hands full with the CAL league hardened Amesbury team. Amesbury won the first meeting of the season, 2-1.
- Pentucket at North Reading , 4:00 pm at the Burbank Arena, North Reading
Pentucket (2-7-3) is on the road against North Reading (4-6-2) at Burbank Arena in Reading, MA. Pentucket’s aggressive and physical style has put them in the penalty box far too many times already this season. When you don’t have the talent, speed and size to pull off this approach, it can make for a very long season. Their record speaks for itself.
Evening Games:
- Masconomet at Newburyport, Graf Rink, 7:00 p.m.
Newburyport (10-3-1) clinched a state tournament against Pentucket on Thursday with a 4-1 win currently is in 2nd place in the CAL (Cape Ann League). Masconomet (9-4-1) needs one point to qualify for the state tournament and are in 3rd place, three points behind Newburyport. Should be a great game. Masco won the first meeting, 4-1.
- North Andover at Triton, 7:30 p.m. at the Governor’s Academy Rink, Byfield
The Triton Vikings (2-10-1) face off against North Andover (8-4-1) over at Governor’s Academy Rink in Byfield. Triton is working its way through another rough season. They lost to North Andover 8-6 in an earlier meeting in the season.
