Newburyport Lions Club Looking For Volunteers To Help With Its Turkey Dinner, Wednesday & Thursday, November 25th & 26th

It’s not too late to volunteer and help the Newburyport Lions Club with their annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner at the Immaculate Conception School cafeteria. Dinner is being served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Lions Club Annual Thanksgiving Dinner is open to all families and individuals who may be in need. An ever growing number of families and individuals within the Greater Newburyport region have been severely impacted financially and emotionally due to the recession that is currently gripping the country.
Volunteers Needed on Wednesday and Thursday
The Lions Club is looking for volunteers to help with food preparation starting at noon on Wednesday, November 26th. Volunteers are needed to help with peeling potatoes and squash, cleaning and setting tables and chairs, etc.
On Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, volunteers are needed starting at 7:00 am to help with the following:
- to deliver meals (starting at 7:00 am)
- serving the dinner (from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm)
- clean up (from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm)

The Winner’s Circle Running Club is hosting and directing the 19th Annual Turkey Trot at Maudslay State Park, Newburyport, MA on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 26, 2009, at 8:20 am.
This family oriented event is a 3.1 Mile X-Country Run/Walk through one of Massachusetts’s most picturesque State Parks. This is a hassle-free and traffic free running environment!
Proceeds from the Turkey Trot will be used to benefit local high school Cross Country teams.

In the Spirit of Thanksgiving, please bring a can of food or $$ to help stock the Pettengill House Food Pantry. The Pettengill House Food Pantry provides staple food and personal care products to individuals, children, and families in need.

The Annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 5th, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
The Parade begins on Greenleaf Street and marches down Sparhawk Street into downtown Amesbury.
The parade is followed by the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Santa will be on hand to help us ring in the Holiday Season!
After the parade, you can follow Santa to the Annual Holiday Open House at the Provident Bank, 5 Market Street.

You’ll learn birding skills and feel the thrill of finding and identifying birds as we search for birds on our walk to Nelson Island. Join Newburyport Birders and discover your love of learning and the thrill of birding.
Be prepared with sturdy, waterproof, walking shoes for walking on unpaved and often wet, unimproved trails.
There are no facilities at this site. Bring binoculars or borrow ours.

Wednesday Morning Hike, Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail, November 25th

Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee Sponsored Hikes
You are welcome to join the Wednesday morning hikes that are sponsored by the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee.
An informal group meets at the Town Landing on East Street, Ipswich at 9:30 am on each Wednesday from mid September to mid June. All are welcome.
The morning hikes explore the woods and trails in and about Ipswich. There are eleven miles of marked trails in Ipswich, Massachusetts, including a portion of the Bay Circuit Trail. These trails are maintained by members of the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee (IBCTC) with other volunteers, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and other organizations in Ipswich.

The Mass Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center offers a Wednesday Morning Birding program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
If you’re one of the lucky ones that has time available during the week, join Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director Bill Gette for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. It’s a great way to observe birds in the area and identify some of the better locations for finding them when on your own.
During the spring and summer, the center conducts its field trips to birding hot spots in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. The focus for its programs will be the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge (Plum Island), the Merrimack River estuary, Cape Ann, and other productive areas in Essex County.

Registration for students who will be playing winter sports at Newburyport High School will be available at Newburyport High School from Monday, November 2nd through Tuesday, November 24th.
How To Register:
Parents may visit Newburyport High School any weekday from November 2nd through the 24th, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to register their son/daughter for a winter sport.
Evening Registration:
If parents are unable to visit the school during the day, they may do so on Wednesday evening, November 4th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m..
