Visit A Bird Research Station, Newburyport Birders, Plum Island, Saturday, October 10th

Where: Meet at Parking Lot # 1 on the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, Plum Island, Newbury, MA

You are invited to join Newburyport Birders on a two hour visit to the Plum Island birding-related research station on Plum Island, Massachusetts on Saturday, October 10th.

Skilled volunteer bird-banders from the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and Mass. Audubon manage a research station on Plum Island during spring and fall migration to obtain data on birds, including size, age, sex, breeding characteristics and weight.

On your visit you will assist in identification, learn the external anatomy of birds, observe the scientific methods utilized for gathering data, and participate in data collection and recording. This is a rare opportunity to observe the physical adaptations of birds up close and learn about the mechanisms, strategies, and geography of migration from people working in the field.

Fee:

The fee for this program is $10.

Proceeds will be donated to support the bird banding station’s efforts.
