If you want to learn more about the history of Plum Island, you may want to attend Thursday evening’s free program sponsored by the Friends of Parker River at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, Newburyport.
Join local historian and author of “Plum Island, The Way it Was“, Nancy Weare, for a look at the history of Plum Island as a resource for farming and grazing, a life saving station and a tourist destination prior to most of it becoming Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in 1942.
Learn about some of the people who were part of the original fabric of the island, including Weare. Copies of her book will be on sale in the bookstore during the event. This lecture is free.
Bird-friendly coffee and pastries will be available for sale with proceeds benefiting the Friends of Parker River, a nonprofit organization that supports the refuge.
Where To Meet:
This lecture will be held in the Visitor Center Auditorium, 6 Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport. No registration is necessary.
