Newburyport’s annual Yankee Homecoming celebration officially kicked off on Sunday, July 26th.

The eight-day celebration offers plenty of activities and events throughout Newburyport, including fireworks on Saturday evening, August 1st. The Yankee festival culminates with the Yankee Homecoming parade on Sunday, August 2nd.

The following list identifies the events and activities scheduled for Sunday, August 2nd. Visit the Yankee Homecoming website for more information about all of these activities.

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM: TAI CHI WITH PAUL MAHONEY, Waterfront Park, Admission: Free.
10:00 AM: 19TH ANNUAL HIGH STREET MILE (Note: No entries after 9:45 AM). This is a flat fast certified course beginning at Atkinson Common. Pre-entry fee $8.00 no shirt, $10.00 with shirt, race day, $10.00 no shirt, $12.00 with shirt (if available). $3,000 in cash and prizes. Cash bonus for new Male/Female Open course records. Festive post race award ceremony with picnic lunch and raffle prizes.
11:00 AM – 5:00 PM: The 1690 Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm Tours, 5 Little’s Lane, Newbury
11:00 AM: YANKEE HOMECOMING PARADE FLOAT JUDGING. Market Basket Parking Lot, 25 Storey Ave
12:30 PM: YANKEE HOMECOMING PARADE, High Street. Beginning at Three Roads continuing down High Street to Marlboro Street Newburyport is sure to be lined with spectators for the 52nd annual Yankee Homecoming Parade. Fire engines will start at 12:15PM, followed by Grand Marshall Richard A. Eaton (Richie) and General Chairwoman Kathleen Bailey. Donations will be collected during the parade to support the Jimmy Fund, a Yankee Homecoming Tradition!
1:00 PM – 5:00 PM: FEATURED ARTISTS EXHIBITS, Newburyport Art Association, 65 Water Street
CLOSING CEREMONIES, Waterfront Park. Immediately following the parade Yankee Homecoming 2009 General Chairwoman: Kathleen Bailey will lower the Yankee Homecoming flag to close this year’s exciting festivities. See you next year!
