Newburyport Youth Services Looking For Donated Items For Kelly School Youth Center

Newburyport Youth ServicesNewburyport Youth Services (NYS) is looking for donations of the following items for the Kelley School Youth Center which will reopen shortly.

The Kelley School, an eight-room building on High Street, that was used as an elementary school for many generations of Newburyport residents until it was closed in June, 2007, is expected to reopen as the Kelley School Youth Center on Monday, June 29.

Andrea Egmont, Director of Youth and Recreational Services, said that Newburyport Youth Services is seeking donations of the following items for the Kelley School Youth Center:

  • Kitchen Tables with chairs (preferably wood)
  • 2 Small Couches
  • Overstuffed Chairs
  • Ping Pong Table (in good condition)
  • Area Rugs (preferably solid colors)
  • Working microwave
  • Working toaster oven

On Saturday, June 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Lake Gardner Improvement Association, the Amesbury Board of Health and the Amesbury Recreation are hosting Family Fun Day at Lake Gardner Beach.

Come and enjoy a day at the beach at the Lake Gardner Beach Family Fun Day. Enter the Lake Gardner Classic 5K Canoe and Kayak Race. Build your best sandcastle and win a prize!

New openings are now available in the summer youth tennis lessons program offered by Newburyport Youth Services (NYS).

NYS offers week long tennis lessons at two sites in Newburyport for youth ages 6 and older.

NYS has some new openings that are available on a first come/first serve basis during the weeks of June 29th to August 10th. The program runs from Monday through Friday from 9:30 to 12:00 pm (noon).

The Mass Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center offers a Wednesday Morning Birding program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Note: This is the last Wednesday Morning Birding program until August 5th.

If you’re one of the lucky ones that has time available during the week, join Joppa Flats Sanctuary Director Bill Gette for this weekly birding field trip in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. It’s a great way to observe birds in the area and identify some of the better locations for finding them when on your own.

During the spring and summer, the center conducts its field trips to birding hot spots in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. The focus for its programs will be the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge (Plum Island), the Merrimack River estuary, Cape Ann, and other productive areas in Essex County.

You can expect to see a large number of shorebirds, egrets and herons, waterfowl, and migrating songbirds. When appropriate, the itinerary will be adjusted to search for rarities reported in the area.

To participate in the birding field trip, meet at the Joppa Flats Education Center, 1 Plum Island Turnpike, Newburyport.

Summer Figure Skating Clinic, Graf Rink, Newburyport, July 13th to July 16th

The Graf Rank, Newburyport, is offering a four-day Summer Figure Skating Clinic at the rink during the week of July 13th. The clinic will run from Monday through Thursday, July 13th to 16th, from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm.

The Graf Rink Summer Figure Skating Clinic is designed for skaters who are looking to polish their skills before the start of the September skating season. Skaters will focus on improving their technique during the 4-day period.

The clinic features both on-ice and off-ice activities.

  • On ice activities include: group lessons, power skating, edge class and free skate.
  • Off ice activities include: conditioning, stretching, strength training and arts & crafts.

Lunch will not be served, but a light snack will be provided.
