If you would like to help out with this year’s Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk® that is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, October 4, 2009, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, a planning and informational meeting is being held on Tuesday, April 7th at 6:00 p.m. at Brickstone Square, Andover, MA.
Memory Walk Organizers and Memory Walk Team Captains are needed for this year’s event.

Newburyport Youth Football and Cheerleading will have online registration from March 30th to May 1.
All players and cheerleader must register at the Newburyport Youth Football and Cheerleading website.
The program is open to all players entering grades 3-8, and all cheerleaders entering grades 5-8.
Information Night on Monday, April 6th
The league will have an information night on Monday, April 6th (6:30 p.m.) at the Nock Middle School in the Molin Cafeteria.

Newburyport Youth Hockey 2009-2010 Registration, March 30th

The Newburyport Youth Hockey League will be holding registration for the 2009-2010 hockey season on Monday, March 30th and Wednesday, April 1st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Graf Rink, Newburyport.
All players, from Mite Instructional to Bantams, must register on one of these two nights.
The registration fee is $175 per player.

Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee Sponsored Hikes
You are welcome to join the Wednesday morning hikes that are sponsored by the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee.
An informal group meets at the Town Landing on East Street, Ipswich at 9:30 am on each Wednesday from mid September to mid June. All are welcome.
The morning hikes explore the woods and trails in and about Ipswich. There are eleven miles of marked trails in Ipswich, Massachusetts, including a portion of the Bay Circuit Trail. These trails are maintained by members of the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee (IBCTC) with other volunteers, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and other organizations in Ipswich.

Recent Bird Sightings, Greater Newburyport, March 28th

Early spring is a great time of year for birdwatchers in the Greater Newburyport region. From the ocean, coast and tidal rivers to nearby fields, meadows, and wooded areas, there is an abundance of bird life to observe if you make an effort to go outdoors and explore.
Plum Island Area Sightings
Newburyport Birders reports that as of March 28th 95 species of birds have been observed in the Plum Island area over the past 10 day period. Visit their website for the most up-to-date information on what’s currently going on in the Greater Newburyport birding world.
Most sightings are from the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, which makes up the southern two thirds of the island.
Plum Island is a barrier beach that spans the following cities and towns in Greater Newburyport: Newburyport, Newbury, Rowley, and Ipswich, Massachusetts.
Here is a quick list of some of the notable sightings in the Plum Island area.

Joppa Jazz Dance Company Spring Performance, Springing Forward, April 5th

Tickets: $125.00 and $15.00
Joppa Jazz Dance Company will present new work at its performance, “Springing Forward”, on Sunday, April 5th at 2:00 and 5:00 pm at The Firehouse Center For The Arts in Newburyport.
The youth company, based at The Dance Place in Newburyport, is made up of three levels:
- Joppa Jr., grades 4-6
- Joppa Two, grades 7-8
- and Joppa Teen, 9-12 grades
The performance features jazz, lyrical, ballet and modern styles created by company directors, Fontaine Dubus, Erin Foley, and Ballet choreographer Pamela Smith.
Company dancers, who are also encouraged to collaborate with each other creating their own pieces, perform eight original dances.

Regional Rabies & Microchipping Clinic, Amesbury Town Hall, Saturday, March 28

The Merrimack River Feline Resucue Society (MRFRS), in conjunction with the Cities of Newburyport and Amesbury, the Towns of Salisbury and Newbury and with Carr Island Animal Hospital, will be holding a spring rabies vaccination and microchipping clinic on Saturday, March 28th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (Noon) in the auditorium of Amesbury Town Hall.
Dogs must be on leashes and Cats in Carriers. Cost for the rabies vaccine is $5 per pet, with microchip implantation available also for $30 each. Three year vaccines will be given with proof of a current rabies vaccine.

The Winner’s Circle Running Club is coordinating the 28th Annual April Fools Four-Mile Road Race that will take place on Saturday, March 28th at 11:00 am.
The race will start at the Winner’s Circle Sports Bar in Salisbury. The pre-race entry fee is $15 (received by 3/23/09). Race day entry is $20.
