Elder Mediation Program Offered By North Shore Community Mediation, Inc.
March 2, 2009
The North Shore Community Mediation Center (NSCM), located in Beverly, MA, is an independent non-profit corporation that provides alternative dispute resolution and training services to the communities of the North Shore.
What Is Mediation? Mediation is a voluntary, confidential process to help people resolve conflicts or problems.
ELDER MEDIATION PROGRAM
The North Shore Community Mediation Center’s Elder Mediation Program uses the mediation process to help families plan and care for an elderly family member. Issues usually involve numerous family members.
Conflicts can be triggered by a change in circumstances of the elder.
Presenting issues could include:
- Health and Safety concerns
- Caregiver issues
- Residence and long-term care decisions
- Power of attorney
- Financial or estate planning
- Inheritance disputes
- Adult guardianship
- Medical treatment
- And more…
Sessions could involve:
- The senior
- Adult siblings
- Spouse
- Grandchildren
- Concerned friends
- Caregivers
- Clergy
- And other advocates, etc.
Since each family has a unique, often unstated understanding of how decisions are made and conflicts are resolved, NSCM mediators are trained to help build consensus among participants and use alternative dispute resolution techniques that fit the situation.
Fees:
Intake/Administrative Fee: $50
Session Fee: $200 per hour
NSCM is committed to providing services regardless of a family’s ability to pay.
If a family wishes to have the session fee reduced, they may request a waiver and must provide verification
of income. Payment is made at the beginning of a mediation session and not based on whether agreement is reached.
