Natural History Lecture Series At The Great House on Castle Hill

As part of its second annual winter speaker series, the Trustees of Reservations is presenting a talk by Anne Giblin, principal investigator for the Plum Island Ecosystems Long Term Ecological Research program, PIE (LTER) on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 7:00 pm inside the Great House on Castle Hill.

Ms. Gilbin will describe the activities and research being carried out by the Plum Island Ecosystems Long Term Ecological Research program. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the natural world around you on the North Shore.

The Plum Island Ecosystems LTER (PIE LTER) was established in 1998. The principal study site for PIE LTER is the Plum Island Sound estuary, its coupled Parker and Ipswich River basins and the coastal ocean, the Gulf of Maine.

The goal of Plum Island Ecosystems LTER (PIE LTER) is to develop a predictive understanding of the long-term dynamics of watershed and estuarine ecosystems at the land-sea interface and to apply this knowledge to the wise management and development of policy to protect the natural resources of the coastal zone.
