Newburyport Gets By Bishop Fenwick, Faces Winthrop Next
February 25, 2009
First Period Domination: Newburyport dominated play in the first period and came out witha 3-0 lead after one period with two goals by Kyle McElroy and one by Derek Freeman. Newburyport was totally in control. Most of the play took place in the Fenwick defensive zone.
Three Power Play Goals In Second Period: The second period was ”Do or Die” time for the Bishop Fenwick Crusaders. The Crusaders stepped up to play, helped by Newburyport penalties, and scored two power play goals. The game started to feel much closer as Bishop Fenwick closed the three goal deficit to one, 3-2, and you could feel/hear the Bishop Fenwick fans coming to life.
But just about a minute later, Kyle McElroy of Newburyport, scored his third goal of the game (hat trick) on a power play to give Newburyport a little more breathing room and a 4-2 lead going into the third period. All three goals scored in the second period were power play goals.
