The Amesbury High School will host a celebration and open house on Sunday, February 1st, from1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event begins with a ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Amesbury High School renovation and expansion project at 1:00 pm in the Francis E. Lawlor Auditorium which will be followed by an Open House until 4:00pm.
The Open House offers the public to opportunity to view the completion of the nine-year renovation and expansion project of the high school.
During the open house, the public will be able to explore the high school and Amesbury High School (AHS) students will be on hand to answer questions. School Committee member Tom McGee, the committee’s liaison to the AHS Building Committee, will present a slide show in the new cafeteria detailing the history of the project.

Call For Volunteers For The Newburyport Literary Festival

Calling all Volunteers!
The Newburyport Literary Festival is looking for approximately 150 volunteers
to help out at its Fourth Annual Literary Festival on Friday and Saturday, April 24th and 25th in venues located in downtown Newburyport.
Volunteers are the backbone of the Newburyport Literary Festival. Their work and dedication assure that the Festival runs smoothly and the attendees enjoy themselves to the fullest.
The Festival offers many volunteer opportunities for individuals as well as for book groups, writing groups, librarians, honor societies, and school service groups.
Approximately 150 volunteers are needed to work at the Festival on Friday, April 24, from 4:30 pm until 9 pm, and on Saturday, April 25, from 8 am until 9 pm.

16th Annual Newburyport Rotary Frigid Fiver Race, Bresnahan School, Newburyport, February 1st

Registration: $15.00 pre-entry, $20.00 on race day.
The 16th Annual Newburyport Rotary Frigid Fiver 5 Mile Road Race will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2009 with a 12:00 pm (noon start) at the Bresnahan School, 333 High St., Newburyport, MA.
Funds from the event will be donated to various high school scholarships among the region including Newburyport High, Triton Regional and Whittier Regional High Schools. Funds are also donated to polio research efforts and elementary education efforts.
The Frigid Fiver is being coordinated by Tom Farrell of the Newburyport Rotary with the assistance of the Winner’s Circle Running Club of Salisbury. Sponsors for this year’s Frigid Fiver include the Institution for Savings Bank, TD Banknorth, Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank and The Provident Bank.

Specialist To Direct Aerial North Atlantic Right Whale Survey

Dr. Leeney, who joined the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies last year as an aerial survey observer, has technical and field experience with marine mammals. Her work has included photo identification, field deployment and execution of aerial surveys.
The Center for Coastal Studies’ right whale aerial survey program, which operates out of Chatham Airport, is conducted from January through May with money from the state Division of Marine Fisheries and a federal permit from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The workshop details the process of creating a successful website and Internet presence. In addition, attendees receive guidance on how to conduct an effective online marketing campaign. If you ever wanted to see the Cape Ann Musuem’s Fitz Henry Lane collection, then make plans to attend the museum’s free tour of the collection on Saturday, January 31st at 11:00 am when museum curator, Martha Oaks, will present a free tour of the Museum’s renowned Fitz Henry Lane collection.
The Cape Ann Museum holds the largest collection of Lane’s work in the world. Fitz Henry Lane, a mid-19th century maritime luminist, was born in Gloucester in 1804.
No reservations are necessary for this free program which is opern to the public.
