 The 28th Annual New Years Day Hangover Classic 10K and 5K Road Races, organized and hosted by the Winner’s Circle Running Club, will be run at 11:45 am on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at Salisbury Beach.

There is an optional “ocean plunge” for those who truly want to be invigorated after the race.

The race starts at 11:45 a.m. at Salisbury Beach Center, where runners will begin to congregate at the Carousel Lounge 27 Ocean Front Street. Refreshments and live music will be provided after the race at the Carousel Lounge. Cash prizes will be awarded to top finishers.

“Wild About Nature & Science Too” Program for Children 3 to 6

Cost: The class is $75 for Newburyport residents and $85 for non-residents.

Wildlife biologist Joann Healey will hold a “Wild About Nature and Science Too” for children ages 3 to 6 on Tuesdays from January 6th through February 10th, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Old South Church, 29 Federal St., Newburyport.

The “Wild About Nature and Science Too” class offers hands-on science experiments like making Play-Doh, mixing primary colors to create colors of the rainbow, nature tracks, signs of local wildlife and more.

The class is $75 for Newburyport residents and $85 for non-residents. Parents are asked to be a part of the program and are welcome to bring younger siblings, as there is an adjacent play space.

It’s a memoir about his more than 30 years teaching at Newburyport High School. The book chronicles the ups and downs of teaching in the public school system, and is often both humorous and sad.

The Parker River National Wildlife Refuge is offering a free program for homeschoolers, Nature Detectives: Homeschool Tracking Program, on Thursday, January 15th from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The program, which is for children ages 6 to 10, will introduce your homeschooler to the art and science of tracking wildlife. Discover the clues animals leave behind and become wildlife “detectives” in this fun, educational program.

The program includes both indoor and outdoor activities, so dress for the weather.
Meet at the Refuge Visitor Center.

WNBP, The LegendsAccording to reports in the Salem Gazette and Gloucester Daily Times, Westport Communications of Beverly is selling AM radio station WNBP, AM-1450, to Port Broadcasting LLC.

WNBP, 1450, which was purchased in 2004 by Westport Communications, is licensed to Newburyport and has served the North Shore of Massachusetts for more than 50 years, according to a statement released from Westport.
