Amesbury Defeats Newburyport to Win CAL League Small Division

There was lot at stake for both teams in yesterday’s game, including the Cape Ann League (CAL) Small Division title and entry into the state tournament with a chance to make it to the high school superbowl game.
With Amesbury’s victory, the CAL Small Division ended in a three-way tie between Amesbury, Georgetown and Newburyport. By holding Newburyport to under 26 points (Newburyport only scored 7 points), Amesbury finished as the CAL Small Division title holder due to the tie-breaking rules.

When: Thursday, November 27th at 10:00 amWhere: Landry Stadium, Amesbury
Tickets: Pre-game ticket prices are $4 for students and senior citizens and $6 for adults. All tickets will be $6 on game day.
This Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day football game between Amesbury and Newburyport has all the “fixings” for a great Thanksgiving Day football feast on the gridiron.
Once again there is a lot at stake for both teams coming into the last game of the 2008 football season. Amesbury has had Newburyport’s “number” the past two years with a 20-0 victory in 2006 and a 17-13 victory last year in which Newburyport’s starting quarterback, Joe Clancy, did not play. Last year’s victory over Newburyport clinched Amesbury’s first Cape Ann League title since 1988.
Newburyport should be pumped up big time for this year’s match up at Landry Stadium in Amesbury. It should be a great game!
