Birds On The Move in Greater Newburyport

October 18, 2008

CormorantsNew England autumns are truly one of the great visual benefits of living in our region. And it is still absolutely free of charge to enjoy!

This year the fall colors have been exceptional as has been the weather, not just in in northern New England, but right here in the Greater Newburyport region of coastal Massachusetts. Hopefully you have taken some time to to enjoy the scenery and the feel of fall in the air.

The foliage is not the only sign of autumn in our region. If you have a keen eye and ear, you can see and hear many of the birds that are in migration mode as they pass through the area. Canada geese, in particular, are easy to identify visually and audibly as they fly by overhead.

Steven Grinley’s weekly “Words On Birds” column in the Newburyport Daily News identifies some of the birds currently moving through the area and others that are in the process of getting ready to migrate.

Some of the birds mentioned in his article include Canada geese, snow geese and double-crested cormorants which are very common in our area from spring through summer.
