Newburyport Girls Soccer Team Featured in Boston Globe, September 21st

There is a nice article in the Boston Globe North Sports section today, Sunday, September 21, 2008, by Matt Porter on the Newburyport High School girls 2008 soccer team.

Last year the Newburyport girls soccer team, which won its first Division 3 State Championship, was almost unstoppable compiling a 20-1-2 record with fourteen shutouts. This year the Newburyport Clippers, currently 4-0, are again a dominant force in the Cape Ann League and heavily favored to win the Cape Ann League championship.

Matt Porter’s article focuses on the three talented seniors that are the backbone of this year’s team (Jillian Kinter, Laura Muise and Taylor Bresnahan) and Newburyport Coach Robb Gonnam.

Senior Jillian Kinter, the reigning Cape Ann League Player of the Year, had 107 points entering this season and is the second all-time scorer in Newburyport soccer history behind Kristin Mahoney (152 points).

Seniors Laura Muise (96 points to begin 2008) and Taylor Bresnahan (90 points) are 3rd and 5th, respectively, in the Clippers’ all-time scoring soccer scoring list.

Newburyport Coach Gonnam has 30 years of soccer coaching experience. He also coaches four club teams in addition to the Newburyport High School girls soccer team, and has placed more than 250 players onto NCAA teams.
