Saugus Runs Over Newburyport, 35-32

What a difference a week makes!

Last week Newburyport’s offense couldn’t get untracked in their opening game loss (6-0) to Triton, but the defense played pretty well. Yesterday, the Clippers offense showed up and showed that they could put points on the board, but the defense just couldn’t find a way to stop the running attack of the Saugus Sachems as they lost to Saugus, 35-32.

The Clipper’s never found a way to shut down the Sachem’s running attack during the entire game.The Sachems didn’t punt the ball once in the game and were only stopped once on an offensive drive when time run out at the end of the first half.

Towards the end of the first half you had the feeling that this was one of those games where the team that had the ball last would win the game as both teams were able to march down the field and score.

Several miscues on Point After Touchdown attempts came back to bite the Clippers as these missed points were the differnce in the game. Both teams scored five touch downs, but the Clippers only got two points on the Point After attempts whereas the Sachems got five.

Next week the Newburyport Clippers face Lawrence in a home game in Newburyport at 7:00 pm. Hopefully the offense and defense will both be in synch for this game. Newburyport is now 0-2 for the season.
