Yankee Homecoming, NewburyportHere is the schedule of Yankee Homecoming events for Tuesday, July 29th:

8:00AM – 9:00AM: TAI CHI WITH PAUL MAHONEY
Waterfront Park. Admission: Free!

9:00AM – 6:00PM    CRAFT FAIR – MARKET SQUARE FESTIVAL
Market Square, Waterfront, State, Pleasant and Inn Street areas.  An outdoor crafts fair offering unique, high quality hand-crafted wares of New England Crafters. Enjoy the free entertainment while you shop in historical Newburyport. Something for everyone!

10:00AM – 12:00 Noon    HISTORICAL TOUR by RALPH AYERS
Leaves from Information Booth, Waterfront Park. Admission: Free!

A two hour narrated tour of Newburyport, Newbury, andPlum Island, pointing out our homes, parks, and history, including famous forefathers of this historic area.

The tour is hosted by Ralph Ayers, a native Newburyporter, and a 51-year volunteer of the celebration. His stories are true, with some humorous fibs added for your entertainment.

The van has limited capacity. Call 978-465-9363 for reservations for parties of 6 or more, otherwise first come-first served.

Donations gratefully accepted. All donations support Yankee Homecoming.

10:00AM – 11:30AM    YANKEE HOMECOMING’S HISTORIC CEMETERY TOURS

The Old Hill Burying Ground. Admission: $2.00

Encounter old and new friends during a fascinating and hauntingly informative wander through Newburyport’s Old Hill Burying Ground. Those souls taking the tour should meet by on Greenleaf Street at the entrance across the street from the Bartlet Mall. before 10:00AM. Any additional donations collected at the end of the tours will go directly to cemetery projects.

10:00AM – 4:00PM    CUSHING HOUSE MUSEUM SILHOUETTES
Cushing House, 98 High Street
Cost per silhouette: $29.00. Duplicate copy: $10.00

Silhouette Artist, Carol Lebeaux , will once again do hand-cut silhouettes. For more information and silhouette reservations call 978-462-2681.

11:00AM – 3:00PM    CUSHING HOUSE MUSEUM TOURS
Cushing House, 98 High Street
Admission: Free!

The Historical Society of Old Newbury will conduct free guided tours of the first floor of the Cushing House Museum , highlighting recent acquisitions. For more information please call 978-462-2681.

11:00AM – 5:00PM     FEATURED ARTISTS EXHIBITS
Newburyport Art Association, 65 Water Street
Admission: Free!

  • “Sea and Stone” Jane Sydney & Michael Cunliffe Thompson”, Newburyport Art Association’s own Laura Coombs Hills Gallery
  • “Making an Impression: 10 Printmakers “, Newburyport Art Association’s own Sargent Gallery
  • “Big Works” An invitational Members Exhibit, Newburyport Art Association’s own Hartson Gallery (2nd Floor)

The first exhibit features the intertwined visions of Ms. Sydney and Mr. Thompson. The second exhibit deals with art created through the use of mono prints, gelatin plating, etching, etc.

12 Noon – 6:00PM    YANKEE HOMECOMING DOWNTOWN ENTERTAINMENT
Downtown area, including Market Square Stage, Inn Street Stage, and Waterfront Stage.

12 Noon – 2:00PM   Newburyport Rotary Club’s Luncheon To Honor Rear Admiral Richard I. Rybacki, USCG (Ret.)
The United States Coast Guard Station, 65B Water Street

This is the Newburyport Rotary Club’s annual luncheon conducted during the week of Yankee Homecoming. All Rotarians are welcome. A newer “Native Son” of Newburyport, Rear Admiral Richard Rybacki of the United States Coast Guard , is being honored!

Country Rehabilitation and Nursing Center 180 Low Street, Newburyport
Admission: $2.00

6:25PM Start Time for 5K and 6:35PM Start Time for 10M
YANKEE HOMECOMING 10M & 5K Road Races
Newburyport High School, High Street
Admission: $18.00 before race day, $25.00 day of the race. First 2,400 participants receive a t-shirt.

Races are certified and sanctioned. $4,500.00 cash prizes and 70 medals will be awarded. Over 3,000 runners. Races start and finish at Newburyport High School on High Street.
