The Brew, a hometown favorite, will be performing tonight in the 2nd Annual Music in the Millyard series. The band features Amesbury brothers Chris and Joe Plante on bass and keyboards, respectively, and also includes Dave Drouin on lead guitar and Kelly Kane on drums.
The free concert, sponsored by the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank, runs from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Last week’s show that was to feature Byfield fiddler E.J. Ouellette & Crazy Maggy was rained out and has been rescheduled for August 7.
Jump ‘n’ Jive at Salisbury Beach, Friday August 1st

Rico Barr and the Jump ‘n’ Jive Review take over the mall at Salisbury Beach tomorrow night for a free concert from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Nominated as Swing Band of the Year by the National Swing Awards, the band’s repertoire goes beyond Latin, ballroom and swing to include dance music, classic rock, pop, jazz and more. In addition to such hits as “The Guido Shuffle” and “Robin Hood,” a remake of an old Louis Prima record, the band will be featuring selections from its just-released CD, “This Is It.”
The free concert is being sponsored by the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank.

Ever wanted to take a tour the Newburyport Police Department? If you do, the Newburyport Police Department will be holding an open house on Saturday, August 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Balloons and ice cream for the kids are being donated by Simply Sweet of Newburyport. At the open house you’ll have the opportunity to see all of the police equipment, which will be displayed in front of the police station on Green Street.
Two guided tours of the police station will be offered: at 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

MetroRock Hosting “The Last Summer Fling” on August 16

MetroRock Climbing Center in Newburyport is hosting “The Last Summer Fling” August 16 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. All activities are free and open to the public. There will be pro clinics, gear demos, music, food and beverages.
That evening, the gym will serve as the site for a free party lit by black lights and hosted by a professional disc jockey.
MetroRock North / Newburyport is an indoor rock climbing center that provides state-of-the-art climbing equipment in a climatically controlled and safe environment that is welcoming to all levels of climber and everyone in the climbing community
MetroRock North is located in Newburyport, MA, near near the intersection of I-95 and Rt. 1. The facility contains over 12,000 square feet of “state of the art” climbing structures, and officially opened on Oct. 20, 2006.

The 5th Annual Newburyport High alumni baseball game to benefit ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease ‑ a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells and pathways in the brain and spinal cord - will be played Saturday, August 2nd at the Lower Field behind Newburyport High School.
The cost is $20 and includes a shirt and hat. Admission is open to the public at $10 per spectator.

7th Annual Pig Roast, Tuck Museum, Hampton, August 30th

Ever been to a pig roast? Want to help support the activities and mission of the Hampton Historical Society? Check out the 7th Annual Pig Roast being held by the Hampton Historical Society and Tuck Museum.
Food will include roasted pig, potato salad, homemade baked beans, apple sauce, deserts, and beverages. There will also be a silent auction, raffles and door prizes, including gift certificates and items donated by local merchants. Entertainment will include music and a clown.
The Hampton Historical Society and Tuck Museum run completely on volunteer efforts and donations. The Tuck Museum is the home of the Hampton Historical Society. Physically, it consists of a number of buildings, monuments, and artifacts, located on Park Avenue in Hampton.
The annual Pig Roast is an important fundraising event sponsored by the Hampton Historical Society to support its operations.

Crane Beach Sandblast Competition, Saturday, August 9th

Where: Crane Beach, Argilla Road, Ipswich
Cost: Teams pay $7 each plus the parking fee, $7.50 per car for members of The Trustees of Reservations, $22 for nonmembers. Non-competitors pay the parking fees only; cyclists and walkers pay $2 each.
The Annual Crane Beach Sandblast competition, one of the most popular north shore beach events, is being held on Saturday, August 9th. The theme of this year’s competition is focused on superheroes, ”Super Heroes Go Green,” as in environmentally friendly.
